Treasure Hunting — #ILLUMINATION
If I Weren’t a Writer, I’d Be an Explorer
There is gold in them thar hills.
Sherry McGuinn wrote a fun story about what she’d do if she weren’t writing.
She wasn’t truthful. (ducking)
I say that because she said she’d already done that while she was working as a writer. You can read about it yourself.
She tagged me and others, daring us to share what we would do other than writing. It’s never a question of if I wasn’t a writer. It’s more like what kind of mischief can I get myself into, so I have more fodder for my writing.
Over several ensuing days, I saw others responding to her dare. I knew I was going to write about it, I wanted to respond sooner, but I had too much on my plate at the time. As if that wasn’t enough, Dr. Mehmet Yildiz kept putting out challenge after challenge, distracting me from my intention to write about it.
Okay, enough puttering about it. If I weren’t a writer, I’d be an explorer.
Growing up, I was fascinated by the stories of Marco Polo, Vasco de Gama, and Christopher Columbus. I’d sit in the classroom and daydream. Those daydreams lead me to live a nomadic life. I still have dreams of cross-continental train rides, hiking through forests and jungles, and traversing mighty rivers.
But there is more than one way to be an explorer. I like to explore the archives of #ILLUMINATION and other publications of Medium, for example.
So I went exploring down the Illumination feed looking for the responses to Sherry’s challenge and discovered a treasure trove for your enlightenment and entertainment. There is nothing more rewarding to an explorer than to share the discoveries.
I found eight nuggets, and here they are, in no particular order of value. At least one of them is a second-degree response.
As always, thank you for reading.
