I Wept as I Read the Headline

The news I delivered

Random Word Drabble Challenge Day 49 Word Is Newspaper.

Since drabbles are so short, please remain on the page for at least 30 seconds.

The morning sun was barely up — as the mayor’s son pedaled through the silent streets, delivering newspapers.

He had spent the night at Joey’s slumber party. It was fun.

The paper seemed particularly heavy that morning.

Standing at the door to his house, he unrolled the paper to reveal a chilling headline:

Mayor & Wife Shot to Death in Home Robbery, Son Missing.

Panic seized him. Tears blurred the print as he realized the horrifying truth. He was the missing son — the orphaned son.

He quickly dialed 911, his innocence shredded by the cruel reality of a world without mercy.
