I Was Wrong, You Don’t Need Luck To Succeed

I wrote earlier that luck was needed for success. I’m sorry, I was wrong!

Post 194/500

In one of my previous posts, I wrote that one of the factors that decide our level of success is luck.

I was wrong!

You don’t need luck to achieve success. I have been writing for the last five months and have gradually understood the process of writing better. I have earned over $100 over the previous two months, and well on my way to doing the same this month.

Now I know I didn’t get lucky — I worked for it, learned from my mistakes, and didn’t give up.

A little background

When I got started, I would look at all these big names and wonder how they had achieved such a high level of success. I was new to writing, and I thought that one of the main reasons they were where they were hugely successful was because they had gotten lucky. I did realize that there was more to their success than just luck. But I did overestimate the role of luck!

I also attributed their success to their timing. Maybe these big-name writers got here earlier. They got in on the ground floor.

I recently wrote a post about rereading one’s own articles. So I took my advice and read my old posts. And in one of my old posts, I mentioned that one needs luck to succeed. It is one of my most successful posts, so I assume many people resonate with this.

Here’s that post!

I have evolved so much as a writer in just a few months. I’m not the same person who wrote that post about luck. My opinion on the topic has changed.

I have earned over $100 over the last two months and most likely will do so again this month. I’m statistically in the top 7% of the writers (by earnings).

Now I know for a fact that I didn’t get lucky. I’ll pick three reasons.

  • I worked for it — wrote a lot! I have published over 190+ posts in 5 months + 1 week. My goal is to get to 500 posts by the end of 2022.
  • I learned from my mistakes — I have taken almost every piece of advice I have ever given and applied it to my work. I constantly read from other successful authors and seek to improve my skills.
  • I didn’t give up — as simple as that gets.

Now I know better!

And I am very, very sorry. I was wrong. You don’t need luck to succeed as a writer.

If you know why you write and have the will to keep learning and doing — you will succeed.

Writing is not special — it is good news and bad news. Anyone willing to put in the work is likely to succeed. All the secrets to becoming a successful writer are here to see — only if you open your eyes and look for them.

I also thought that one needs to have timed their entry right. Sure, some people are in the right place at the right time, but that’s not all there is. Everyone has their own journey to success, and it doesn’t happen overnight.

And most of the successful authors are here longer for one reason only — they started and did not quit.

Now I firmly believe that the right time to start is anytime.

You don’t need luck or timing. You just need to get started and not quit.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree or disagree? I would love to hear your opinion in the comments below!
