Get to 500 posts: My goal for 2022
I’ve decided on My goal for 2022 — finish writing 500 posts

Post 191/500
It is a few months into 2022 now. I finally have my writing goal for 2022. I have never been a fan of setting goals on December 31st. It’s mostly done in a rush and statistically likely to fail. So I take my time to figure out what I really want.
I’ll explain why I picked this specific goal and why I do it now (& not on 31st Dec 2021).
Why now (in April 2022): People who pick goals at the end of the year do it in a rush. They want to pick something within a certain time frame without really thinking it through. This is usually due to peer pressure or FOMO — Fear Of Missing Out. I’ve never been a big fan of setting goals based on someone else’s opinion. It has to come from within.
The other reason I don’t like setting goals at the end of the year is that it’s usually based on an arbitrary number or date. Also, if you don’t have a good reason for wanting it, you’re not going to achieve it. And if you don’t achieve it, you’ll just feel bad and less likely to use the goal-setting process.
So, in short, I need to know my WHY. And I need to understand WHY this specific goal. I increase my chances of success if I have good answers for these.
It has taken me until the 2nd of April, 2022, to finalize my goal. I could have easily set a goal on 31st Dec 2021 to finish writing 500 articles by the end of the year, but I wouldn’t have known why and how. But that’s not my style. I like to take my time and really think things through.
My Goal: To finish writing 500 articles by the end of the year.
My reason for this goal:
2022 is a year of learning for me. I want to learn how to build sustainable writing habits. I want to know how it feels to have written a reasonable volume of articles. I want to feel like I’m on my path toward establishing my own micro-empire.
I have written 190 so far, and I’m more convinced that the only secret to success is to keep writing. This goal will help me keep running!
The plan:
I have written 190 articles so far. I have to write 310 articles in about 270 days. I will continue writing at my current pace and should be able to finish the goal by the end of the year. If I keep getting better at writing, I may even finish it sooner. The plan is simple — keep doing what I am already doing.
How will I measure:
The volume of work: The number of articles I have written will be the best way to measure my progress.
Efficiency: I can also track the amount of time it takes me to write an article and see if I’m getting faster.
Quality: This is a little tougher to measure. I currently use ‘Distribution’ from Medium as a measure. But I’m seeking other pragmatic measures to assess my quality of writing.
The volume of learning: I will also track the amount of knowledge I achieve through this goal. I would like to learn more about
- SEO
- Promotion of my work
- Building own website
- Write fiction
- Newsletters
- Monetization
So there it is — my writing goal for 2022. This is a specific, measurable, achievable, and time-bound goal. And I have a good reason why I want to do it. Now it’s up to me to put in the hard work and achieve it. Wish me luck!
