I want to Quit

It’s Friday and my mind is playing games again.

Art by Malkas

It was a long day at work.

Friday vibes were lingering in the air.

On one hand, I was excited for the weekend, on the other hand, the anticipation made time move in a snails-pace.

It’s as if someone added cornstarch to the flow of time, thickening it up.

Nonetheless, I got through and arrived back home.

When I arrived home I ate a delicious yogurt bowl and relaxed before opening Medium.

A flood of notifications bombarded my vision.

I slowly glanced at the number.

188 Notifications.

I looked at the number.

Unimpressed, I sighed.

I didn’t feel good about seeing this many notifications.

Mather of fact, I got angry seeing them.

But not because they were there, but rather because I didn’t feel grateful for them.

I know I should be grateful.

But today I’m not.

Different thoughts were occupying my mind.

I knew I would be spending the next 2 hours writing, creating thumbnails, answering comments, and reading other people's articles.

“Why not skip today?” I thought.

“Nobody would notice if I didn’t post anything for one day.”

I was about to close my laptop and skip my daily Medium session but I remembered something.

I remembered the reason why I started this.

I remembered that I was not just doing this for me.

I was doing this for my future self.

I’m setting an example for myself and others.

I’m trying to be the best possible version of myself and this meant doing things especially when I didn’t feel like doing them.

And today was definitely a day like that.

Nonetheless, I opened Medium.

Clicked on “Write” and made it happen.

Just click “Write”!

It’s Okay if you want to Quit.

Feelings are out of our control most of the time.

It’s okay to feel angry, demotivated, sad or frustrated.

It’s not okay to succumb to each and every one of your moods.

If you feel like quitting one day, remember why you started first.

Watch your emotions, but don’t be a slave to them.

Did you know that Medium rewards specific types of people?
