I Want To Be Playful, Splashing Happily In The Waves Of The Sea
Preserve the childlike state of mind that helps to remove stress in your life
Being playful, splashing happily!
Many of you must have enjoyed going to a beach and splashing yourself with water. What makes you happy there? You can play! You can shift your energy from worrisome to happiness and relaxation.
Rest is important and relaxation is a must. For a while move away from the worries of daily life and take time off and enjoy yourself.
Before the Covid-19 period two years ago, I went to Goa which is a seaside tourist town in India. It touches the Arabian Sea. The town is called the beach town.
Goa is one of the favorite destinations for Indian tourists due to its pristine beaches. The famous beaches are Baga, Candolim, Calangute, Morjim, Arambol, and Anjuna.
I was staying near Calangute beach. It was early morning. The silvery rays of the sun were falling in the water and sitting between the rocks I saw the reflection of birds, coconut trees, and pebbles.
I threw one pebble and under it, I found several beautiful shells. I felt like a little child lost in wonder. My friend was sitting next to me lost in her own wonder.
Then I started splashing in the water and the waves came in. First a small wave and then a second wave and a third wave. I felt like a child
Loudly I said,
I Want To Be Playful, Splashing Happily In The Waves Of The Sea
This reminded me that it is good to take off work and relax.
The psychologist Eric Berne developed the idea that people can switch between different states of mind. He found that there are three states of mind which he called Parent, Adult, and Child.
It is important to have all three parts in our personality.
The child state
The child state is when we behave in a childlike manner, innocently enjoying everything around us. Small activities make us happy and we laugh and play like a kid. We have a spontaneous enjoyment and fun.
The Parent state
The parent state is when we use our authority like a parent, teacher, or boss. We emulate and are influenced by their behavior pattern which we imbibed while we were growing up and through our life’s experiences. We behave with authority. We also behave like a parent trying to correct another person as though he is our child. We take decisions and try that others follow us like a guide.
The Adult state.
The Adult state we are, dealing with everyday life. We regulate activities and mediate between Parent and Child. regulating the activities of the Parent and Child, and mediating between them.
Berne made this personality model to explain his theory of transactional analysis, showing the study of transactions, communication, and relationships between people.
Do you know that whatever age you are you should not lose the three states of mind? They should be balanced. Everyone has a little or more of each. If you lose your child state you will be morose and serious only.
The takeaways
I encourage you all to take a rest and relax and not always be a parent or an adult in your daily lives. You must take your breaks and play splash and enjoy. Splash water if you want to, play a game or just dance and be happy. Keep your spirits up!
Now for some weekly picks to make you keep your childlike state of mind
The editor’s pick for this week (5th March-11th March 2022)
- Neera Handa Dr has reflected my thoughts by writing that ‘Life is a selfie’. She has written about the benefits of a good smile to make people happy. In your parent and adult state of mind add childlike happiness and smile a lot. If your childlike state is alive you will be able to smile.
2. The big shift entails changing the way you engage with life. It’s a shift from serious to playful, from Yang to Yin. Gregory Russell Benedikt shows you how to make your life fantastic. Playfulness will change your life.
Do not be afraid of failures but learn to handle them because the next step will surely be a success. You should be grateful for your failure. Like an adult take your time to reflect and you will soon get over your difficult time.
To conclude
Before we say goodbye I have to mention the work of who also makes us smile. Lily Lin says that the value of a smile
“ Have amazing vibrations to make us happy if we realize it. Look at the sky. It is so wonderful. Look at the people around you. They are all waiting for a smile from the others. Let them have one of yours anyway.”
In true essence if you smile you will retain your childlike state of mind besides being a parent and adult.
