I Tried High Ticket Affiliate Marketing
Honest Reaction
I had heard about this for years, high-ticket affiliate marketing. I was doing affiliate marketing but, something was always missing. Like a tiny piece of the puzzle.
Meanwhile, I kept hearing people talking about high-ticket affiliate marketing, referring high-priced products like exercise equipment, massage chairs, furniture, etc.
These affiliates were really going the extra mile to close these sales, like talking to potential customers on the phone, closing sales, and writing super long in-depth reviews including in-depth photos.
I was more of a lazy affiliate marketer so, the thought of doing all that work, especially the phone calls, was a major turn-off for me.
Years later, I was able to break into high-ticket affiliate marketing, the lazy way. No sales calls and no in-person testing required.
Here’s how it has been so far…
What is high-ticket affiliate marketing?
As you can imagine, it’s affiliate marketing of high-ticket or high-priced products with high commissions.
For example, one affiliate product I refer costs the customer around $200 and earns me an $80 commission.
Another one costs the customer $500 and gets me $300 per sale.
I like to think of high-ticket affiliate marketing as a way to work smarter, not work harder.
There are definitely still affiliates in this space that make and take phone calls and go the extra mile to close the sale.
That won’t ever be me, though.
Just being transparent there.
I also can’t try and test every product I refer. I wish I could but, it can get quite expensive, frankly, to try every product I refer, in the niche I’m in.
Maybe one day I’ll get there but, for now, I’m not there yet.
But, I strive to be as clear and transparent as possible, sharing in the reviews I write and talk about online, products I have tried and those I haven’t.
How did I break into high-ticket affiliates?
It started with one high-ticket product.
I had referred high-ticket products in the past. Some had earned me thousands of dollars a month!
But, I stumbled upon one product that started to really get good coverage on Google and earned me a steady $3K to $5K a month!
I took that formula and used it on other affiliate products I refer and it worked!
Here’s my formula…
How I make money every month from high-ticket affiliate marketing?
I refer affiliate products of all levels, not just high-ticket.
But, this is the high-ticket formula I began applying to my affiliate reviews that changed the game for me.
Step 1: Find affiliate products
Arguably one of the most challenging parts of this process. Finding the right affiliate products.
- You want to find affiliate products that are a match for your audience and,
- Find affiliate products that are within your niche
Many places for this: Shareasale, Maxbounty, Impact Radius, Partnerstack.
Quick trick: Look at competitors in your niche that are killing it in the affiliate space. Check out the affiliates they are referring and join those programs.
How do you know what competitors are killing it?
- Plug in their URL to Similarweb to get an idea of potential traffic numbers
- Use Chrome extensions like Keywords Everywhere, MOZ, etc. to check estimated traffic numbers for their content, keywords they rank for, etc.
- Check domain authority on Ahrefs (you can check for free)
- Find income reports or traffic reports for competitors (on Starter Story, Pinterest, etc.)
Step 2: Create content
I refer affiliates in blog posts and through social media:
- Writing blogs on my personal blog, Millennial Nextdoor
- Creating blog posts on my Medium blog
- Creating content on Pinterest, TikTok, and other places online
When I create content for high-ticket affiliate products, I want it to be the BEST CONTENT ON THE WEB.
Do things that make your content stand apart from the competition:
- Lots of images, screenshots, graphics, etc.
- Insert videos including social media videos (YouTube, TikTok, etc.)
- Create graphics using Canva
- Add quotes
- Add charts
And, I try to make my written content long-form and longer than competitors.
I read an article or a blip on social media from a blogger who said the way he ranks for keywords and lands one the front page of Google is to write incredibly long content, like 20,000-words long.
He said it takes him weeks to do it sometimes but, when he’s done, his content is almost always longer than everyone else’s and it helps him make it up the ranks of Google very quickly.
I haven’t tried this myself but, it sounds interesting.
Step 3: Track your work
I use Pretty Links on WordPress to track link clicks.
You can also create custom links for your affiliate links to see where traffic is coming from.
For example, create Link A for Pinterest traffic, Link B for blog traffic, Link C for YouTube traffic, etc.
Tracking is part of what makes this process fun. For me at least. I like to see the data, examine it then, with that knowledge double down on what’s working and eliminate what’s not.
For example, for the above example…
- Link A is Pinterest at 40 clicks/month
- Link B is blog at 100 clicks/month
- Link C is YouTube at 200 clicks/month
You can clearly see YouTube is the winner. With this info, I’d double down on YouTube to get the most clicks possible.
Onto You!
I really dig high-ticket affiliate marketing because you can put the same amount of effort as low-ticket affiliates and make FAR MORE!
For example, get 20 conversions a month at $5 each or $100 or, get 20 conversions a month at $150 each or $3,000!
