LIFE|LIFE LESSONS

I Take Life And Death As A Cycle Of Life But Today I Became Emotional

I Went To A Cremation

Every morning I like to read the newspaper. Today, it had not yet come so I did not see it. My son called and also sent me a photo of an obituary of a person who was a family friend.

The couple were great friends of ours. The person Mr. K who passed away and his wife who was a college professor in the English Department were wonderful people.

They have two beautiful daughters and 4 grandkids. My kids grew up with them. We had many family sittings when the children were young.

My son remembered all those childhood years and the time spent with them. Whenever we recollect memories it is always my youngest who remembers and my middle son would say that my memory is not so good that I can remember things,

I wonder how he was recalling everything including attending the weddings of both the girls and the girls who attended their weddings.

He urged me to go for the cremation. He lived in the next city and would not be able to reach it as there was not enough time.

I rushed to get ready and quickly drove off to reach in time with a wreath.

I met up with both the beautiful daughters of course now young ladies with growing children.

They are now independent young women with strong careers who made a mark in their careers. Their mother who was my friend also greeted me and felt good that I was there to support them at the cremation.

My friend hugged me and said, “See K has left me and gone to his heavenly abode.” The girls also hugged me and they called me Aunty from childhood so they were peaceful and yet glad that I had come to meet them and their families.

What I saw was their house help was still with them. She has been with them for at least 50 years. I found them to be such lovable people to have kept their staff for so many years as a family member.

I became emotional and tears flowed out from my eyes. Everyone who knew me in that gathering was surprised to see me like that because a lot of people knew me and knew that I take both life and death peacefully and with respectful composure.

Some people wail loudly in India and I absolutely do not like it. I was not wailing but the tears were there. Someone asked me why I was so emotional today.

Do you know why I was emotional?

The friend who passed away lived life with vigor, and happiness and lived life the way I think you should live.

He enjoyed his life till the end. He loved meeting people and enjoyed every bit of life.

He was 83 and had the zest of laughing at jokes, telling jokes, and going out with friends. He never complained.

What a man he was. He was having lunch with his friend at a club and he slumped at lunch.

He was taken to the hospital and within a week he passed away leaving behind memories of happiness. He spent his life making people happy. Wherever he went he brought sunshine along with him.

I wish many more people left behind footprints of happiness for other people to follow. How will not be emotional for such a person?

May God Bless him for leaving the people with love, hope, and positivity and others to learn the art of living a full life.

The lesson I learned was that there is never a dull moment if you want to live a joyful life. Be the light where people remember you fondly.

Live Love and Laugh.

Make life worth living so people look back fondly and remember you
