I Received $1.63 For 0 Seconds Of Reading Time. What Happened?

Did Medium calculate wrongly?

I am not complaining, I am just perplexed…

It’s only been slightly more than a month since I joined Medium. Ever since I got into the Medium Partner Program 4 days after joining the platform (here’s how I did it), I’ve been checking my Medium earnings regularly. It’s a bad habit, I know. But I just can’t help it!

One day, this article of mine flew to the top of my earnings list for the month of March. I was hugely surprised because there wasn’t any substantial increase in views for that article. As you can see from the photo above, even though there were ZERO seconds of reading time, I earned $1.63. It’s not a lot to some of you, but it is to me since I’m still a new writer on this platform.

Was it a mistake by Medium? What happened?

Here’s My Guess On What Happened

My guess is that a member clicked onto my article, scrolled really fast, and left. Firstly, and sadly, that member did not really read my article. Secondly, that member did not go about clicking on many different other articles. As a result, I ended up getting a huge chunk of his $5.

Is that how it works? I’m not so sure, to be honest. It’s just a guess, so don’t come at me, flaming me for providing false information. If any of you have any idea on how Medium pays their writers on a day-to-day basis, do let me know in the comment section.

Parting Words

Getting money for 0 seconds of reading time is great. But, I really hope people will actually read what I write instead. I will not lie, I joined Medium because I wanted to earn some money. But I also love to write. It would be great if I am earning money because people are reading what I am writing.

Anyways, let me shamelessly promote myself. Those who are interested in finance-related articles, do check out my articles. I will link some of the more popular ones down below, and if you like them, do follow me so you can stay up to date with my posts:

P.S.: If you like what you are reading, or you are interested in writing an article on Medium yourself, consider supporting me and thousands of other writers by signing up for a membership. It only costs $5 per month, and you have the chance to make money with your writing as well.
