Summary

The author has decided to delete their second Medium account due to a lack of engagement and a personal choice to avoid focusing on potentially negative news topics in 2024.

Abstract

The author's decision to delete their second Medium account, which was created with the intention of reporting on news and offering commentary, came after realizing that maintaining the account would require a significant commitment and might involve a focus on negative news stories. Despite the potential for growth, as evidenced by the 100+ followers attracted in three months, the account was not earning enough to cover the membership fee, and the author's engagement with the platform was minimal. The author acknowledges the difficulty of the decision, considering the valid benefits and future potential of the account, but ultimately chose to prioritize their well-being and focus on their more successful account.

I Pulled the Plug Already on My 2nd Medium Account!

Do you want to know why I did it?

When I made the decision last night, to pull the plug on my second Medium account, it was more difficult to do then I imagined.

My hesitation to delete the account, had to do with the fact that I know I could have made the second account pay for itself in the long run, and even earn more money than the monthly membership fee.

All the perceived benefits that I talked about in a related story, were and still are really valid ones.

I only created the other account about three months ago. The 100+ followers I managed to attract, indicates there was surely some potential for growth.

I provided very little activity on the account, other than publishing a few stories, without any real publishing routine or agenda.

My earnings didn’t even cover the $5 monthly membership for the past 3 months, and any views I received were really scarce.

I must admit, I only spent all of 2 seconds on the account, as far as making any connections are concerned.

Honestly, I had big plans and some really interesting ideas on how to use the account in 2024, but now I choose to simply move on, and save my efforts for the account that actually pays me something.

It takes drive and determination to build up another account, and although it’s totally possible, and even potentially profitable, it definitely is not for everyone.

And at this particular time, it’s just not for me. I know that to be the case, although now, I’m suffering from FOM. I’m talking about“fear of missing out” not friends of Medium”.

I truly liked the idea of reporting on the news, and adding a bit of commentary at the end of my story.

With all the stuff going on in the world, in the nation, and right in my own backyard, there’s going to be plenty of news to report on this year.

I knew that already, and that’s what prompted me to create a news account.

But ironically, that’s also the very reason I decided to let the account go, after giving it a lot of thought.

I suspect that much of the upcoming news in 2024 won’t be good, which means, committing to focus on writing about news topics, means committing to filling my mind, heart, and spirit with a lot of negativity for a long while.

That’s not something I want to end up doing all year. So I’ll keep watching the news, and staying abreast of current events, but I won’t allow myself to become fixated on it (which for me, is easy to do).

But that doesn’t mean I won’t write something newsworthy from time to time.

I’m sure something will prompt me to…

Final Thoughts

Now that I made a concrete decision that I’ve been thinking about for a while, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

I officially deleted the account, and as a result, Medium will delete all data related to my account, including content, notifications, and interactions.

If any readers were following @BestRecycledNews and you’re wondering where it went, the Medium gods flipped a switch and did away with all traces of the account.

Just as I mentioned in the past, when I first got the account, I can definitely see the potential benefit of having another Medium account.

But that’s if, and only if, you plan to take time and do what it takes to make the second account grow.

In this particular case, at this particular time, I’m not prepared to do that.

So I guess it’s goodbye BRN, until the next Goode thing and bright idea of mine

Thanks for all who read it…
