I Made $0.16 on Medium and I’m Writing About It!

Exciting, I know.

I’m no Tim Denning. I’m not writing about how I earned 10 or 25 thousand a month from Medium.

I’m writing about my $0.16.

Here’s why.

My first month on the Medium Partner Program was June. I earned $1.36 from the eight stories I wrote.

I wasn’t particularly excited about this figure!

I didn’t write a story about my first Medium Partner payment! It didn’t motivate me to write more.

The second month in, I wrote one story and stopped. I had writer’s block. I became demotivated and didn’t try to write anymore.

It was until I received this email, that I got excited.

I didn’t write in July, and the last thing I was expecting was to receive any kind of money from Medium.

But this is the thing about Medium. You keep earning money on stories you wrote, as long as the stories are there.

In July I took a break from Medium, but I made $0.16.

I also gained around 50 followers! How? I have no idea.

I know. Medium experts always say stop checking your stats and earnings, and focus on writing.

But aren’t your stats and earnings an indication of your writing? You need that “feedback system” Dave Smurthwaite talks about in his article. It’s part of the “Gamification” of Medium to keep you writing.

What excites me was the passive income from no effort in July.

Yes, granted $0.16 won’t get me anything. But this was my second month in, after earning $1.36.

It got me thinking — maybe I’ll give this Medium another try.
