I Have to Ask, What is the Point?
You’re not alone, if you’re in this boat with me.
Last year I had half the followers, possibly fewer, and FIVE TIMES times the income.
A week ago I had 48,000 views, today I have 22,000.
Sounds like what continues to be a very serious visibility problem.
I produce at least one article a day, often more than that, for different publications.
I work harder, write more, get plenty more people following me, but clearly something is terribly, terribly wrong.
My views are, once again, for the fourth time this year, hitting rock bottom.
I have at this point sent perhaps five or six messages to Medium demanding to know WTF.
Crickets.
Crickets.
Crickets.
I see a lot of jobs open on Medium. That tells me that either they are growing with the money they are taking from us, or they are having a serious turnover problem, which means that a shit-ton of people are leaving a toxic environment. I have no clue. Those are impressions.
Crickets.
Anyone else in this leaking boat?
How is it that after three years, I now have more followers than I ever had, but make one fifth the income? Writing more articles, better articles, for more publications?
What the fuck, Medium?
Here’s what they write back:
We received your message and we’ll respond to (my email)) as soon as possible.
In the meantime, we recommend checking out our Help Center at help.medium.com to see if you can find an answer there more quickly.
The Help Center is bullshit. Utterly and totally useless.
And no. They don’t respond. Not for weeks and weeks.
Crickets.
Crickets.
Crickets.
What the fuck, Medium?
Anybody else in this boat with me?
Yep:
Just saying.
