I Had Saved His Life, Follow On Story

He did not know me from Adam

In a recent article, I wrote about how I saved a man’s life, this was a heartbreaking story with a plot twist at the end, and yes, it is a true story that happened to me.

The following article is part two of that story, which happened ten years later. If you want to read the first article, please click on the link below; you will not be disappointed.

I was at work one morning; at the time, I owned a sports nutrition store (Serious Sports Nutrition) and an online business (www.iloveprotein.co.uk) neither exist today.

I had a delivery of sports supplements just come in, and I was busy sorting through the products, checking them off, applying prices and stacking them on the shelves.

I heard someone walk in, and I acknowledged them as usual; I did not see the face at the time; he said he was browsing, so there was no rush for me.

The man had a good look around and put some products onto the counter, asking if they were WADA approved (World Anti-Doping Agency).

All of my products had gone through rigorous WADA testing, so I could confidently tell him they were.

I took the opportunity to talk to him. I noticed he had lost his arm, which brought back memories of the night I saved a man’s life, without being conscious of the fact I had probably stared at his loss a bit too long.

“A biking accident,” he said

I froze, not knowing what to say; my thoughts turned back to his question about the products, so that was my way out, and I explained that they are acceptable to use, also stating that this is not a question most people ask, so was he competing?

He told me he was on the verge of being selected to box for his country, and now I started to feel a bit sick, for this is the man I had saved, and I did not know what to say or if I should even mention it.

He said, previously he had not taken any supplements and had relied on food alone. Still, he dreamed of a woman telling him to seek help from a professional regarding supplements.

My store was well known in the area, so he decided to come and have a look, we spent around 20 minutes talking supplements, and he decided to take a pre-workout and a post-workout shake.

I decided not to charge him for the products, and maybe it was guilt that I could not save his arm, perhaps it was pity, I am not sure, either way, I could not put it through the till register, my brain just refused to do so.

He was surprised by my actions and thanked me, saying that he would send some of his friends in to purchase from me, he walked out, and that was the last time I saw him.

I hope he did well in his boxing career. First, I hope he is in a happy place; I saved his life, then I helped him out a second time; he did not “know me from Adam”, as the saying goes.

I had nightmares for a few days after that meeting and struggled to eat; I am not sure why; I did everything that I could have.

I was a little surprised that he did not question me more, or maybe he knew it was me and wanted to come in, but he felt he could not speak about it either.

My mind goes back to Sally, was this her work again?
