Reflective Earning Report
I Had A 400% Increase In Earnings Last Month
Thoughts and Questions About Where I’m Headed

It never occurred to me that I would make any money when I created my medium account. I came here to get over the fear of publishing my work and improve as a writer. I’ve published thirty articles now and increased the quality of my work.
I wonder what my next milestone will be?
The flow of income has proven to be an unexpected landmark, but I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I love counting and calculating my financial growth as a writer. On the other hand, I find the time spent viewing my stats to be an obsessive and meticulous chore with minor rewards.
From March to April, my Medium earnings have increased by almost 400%. 380% to be exact. The fact that I rounded up 20% speaks to my conflicted emotions.
I aim to balance growing as a writer while increasing my earnings on the platform. In March, I published five articles, and in April, I’ve posted thirteen. That’s a 160% increase in productivity.
If I’m rounding up my earnings, why am I not rounding up my growth in productivity?
If I continue at this rate, I will publish about thirty-three articles in May. That would increase my total number of articles published by 110%. The thought of this happening excites me.
In February, I made enough money to buy a gum ball. In March, I made enough to buy a coffee. If I continue earning at the same rate, I will make enough to buy myself lunch this month. The thought of this happening excites me more than doubling my total number of articles published.
Why does the increase in income excite me more than the increase in my productivity?
My total projected earnings for May is less than 1% of my paycheck from my day job. Furthermore, I will be surprised if I climb to 63 articles published by the end of May. If I do, my writing ability will definitely increase.
There is no way to quantize my improvements in writing. The number of articles I publish and how much money I make is only relative to this imaginary metric. I think the reason I am excited about earning money writing is because it's a passion that I hope to turn into a sustainable career.
I think the best way to reach this goal is to focus on my writing ability. I believe I can improve this solely by writing every day and publishing as much as possible. Judging by the numbers, if I keep creating and posting content, the money will come along for the ride.
I wonder what the road ahead has to offer?
