I Can’t Get Enough Of Animals

My thankfulness series pt. 2

My animals 🥰

It’s the second Saturday in the month of November, which means another gratitude post is due!

Last week, I talked about the people in my life. So, it only makes sense to talk more about God’s creation, specifically animals, the very next week.

I LOVE animals. I am not the kind of animal lover to think that every living thing is adorable. However, the animals that I do find cute I love a lot.

Animals are one of the many things that bring me joy.

Ghost and Jovi 🐾 — Author’s photo

My pets are at the top of my animal list.

They both have crackhead tendencies. My husband and I are very calm and non-energetic people. Somehow, we ended up with the complete opposite personalities in our animals.

Ghost is known for darting around, biting/clawing us, smacking me in the face to wake up in the middle of the night, and can be just downright mean at times. He is NOT a cuddly cat. My husband is obsessed with him. I can’t say the same for myself.

I talk so much crap about our cat that if I say something like, “I thought I saw Ghost walking around a busier area of our neighborhood, but he was inside. I was worried that he was going to get himself run over.” My husband will respond in shock. He’ll turn to Ghost and tell him, “You hear that, Ghost?? Mommy doesn’t want you to die.” WHAT? Of course, I don’t want him to die. But is it asking too much for him to be a little nicer?

When it comes to Jovi, she is still a puppy and behaves like one. She has made a lot of progress though! My husband has more to say about her behavior, and I am the one who ends up defending her.

Her barking can get bad at times. My husband loves her to death, but sometimes, he’ll say in his nice pet voice, “I love you, Jovi, but you are really bad.” I start defending her, “Only sometimes!!! She just wants love.”

Yes, we talk to our pets in the most baby-talk way. You’d think they were human if you heard the conversations that we have with them. My husband defends Ghost. I usually defend Jovi. As much as we get frustrated with them, they are so very loved.

I am so thankful for them.

A recent collage I made after visiting the Knoxville Zoo with my husband. 🤎

I love all kinds of animals, and I enjoy going to zoos and aquariums.

TN has a really big aquarium with HUGE tanks in Chattanooga. There’s a whole building for freshwater animals and another whole building for seawater animals. I loved walking around and seeing everything.

To be completely honest, I am creeped out by all that can be found in the water. As interesting as some of the exhibits were, I had shivers down my spine the majority of the time.

There were otters there though, and I could have looked at those ALL day.

When it comes to zoos, I love 90% of what I see. In the picture above, I was loving most of the animals. The baboons just weren’t getting much of my love. I included it in my collage, because of how weird and funny it looks. They kind of terrify me though.

The cute animals have my full attention, and I always do my best to get the best picture of them possible. They make my heart burst.

My two favorite animals are…

Pandas have been my favorite animal for as long as I can remember. They seem so nice, and they look so cuddly.

Do you know those people who take care of baby pandas for a living? Yeah, I envy them.

Quokkas have become a recent favorite.

Recently, I watched a video of Robert Irwin (Steve Irwin’s son), and he was talking about how their zoo got there first Quokka. The Quokka was licking his nose so gently as he talked about it. I thought I was going to start crying.

I had heard of Quokkas before. They are known to be very friendly and cheerful little animals. Quokkas always look like they are smiling and aren’t afraid of strangers.

So, I have decided to add them as a favorite next to pandas. I believe that I need one for myself.

I had all kinds of pets growing up.

My mom doesn’t like cats or dogs. So, we had to get creative when it came to getting a pet.

I have had a gerbil, a Chinese dwarf hamster, African dwarf frogs, fish, a hamster, and a Chinchilla. My older brother and sister also had dwarf hamsters, a gerbil, and an aquarium of fish at different times.

I begged for a dog my entire life. At sixteen, my parents agreed that I could get a teacup maltipoo. I LOVED that dog with my entire being, my husband didn’t at all. So, when we got married, he went to one of my sisters.

I believe that my mom’s refusal to get us a dog made my heart grow fonder of all kinds of animals.

When my husband and I decided to get a puppy, I gave him a very specific list of what dog breeds I was open to. Like I said, I love animals, but I can be picky. Corgi was number three on my list. Jovi is 100% Corgi.

I go back and forth on if I want more pets. I love African dwarf frogs, and I would love an aquarium full of fish. Sometimes, we wonder if another dog would be good for Jovi.

I don’t know if we will right now because our focus is to hopefully have a baby soon.

But one thing is for sure… I am so grateful for how creative the Lord was with the creatures He put on Earth. Even if I can’t have them all in my home, I can watch animal videos all day or go to a zoo/aquarium.

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.” — Job 12:7–10
