I Broke My Leg to Become a Better Content Writer So You Don’t Have To.😵‍💫

Photo was taken before my surgery to fix my broken bone

Yeah! I had to break my bone to realize why I needed to become a better content writer.

This story is going to be interesting so get your popcorn ready!🍿

Context

It all started in mid-2022 when I was still working at my full-time job.

Back then, I was already juggling my 5 different income sources but was not ready to quit my full-time job. Content writing was a side hustle to me and simply thought of it as just a way to make small bucks. Or so I would think!

While traveling, I slipped and fell pretty hard during work, breaking my bone and tearing 2 of the ligaments on my ankle. The injury left me stuck at home for 3 months.

While many would say this was an unfortunate event, this was my blessing in disguise.

The Recovery Phase

Being stuck at home, I thought I would become bored to death. Not being able to walk made me feel weak and hopeless especially since I love to exercise.

I spend the days of my recovery writing and reading. Before I knew it, I realise I was growing passionate about writing.

Bad workplace environment

My full-time job as a Property Manager required me to be physically there with my clients. Due to my injuries, I wasn’t able to support much for my clients much and had help from colleagues.

I hated getting their “help” because my workplace is not the best environment to be in. Gossip and badmouthing started the moment I have gotten injured.

I hated every moment of it!

I had to somehow quiet-quit fast

For the next 3 months, I train and improve my skill as a content writer. Being trapped at home was my blessing in disguise. I never knew how productive It was when it comes to working.

Aside from supporting my full-time job, I was able to write a lot more and had enough energy to work to nighttime.

Pushing the boundary of what I thought. I broke my limit in writing from 1 to 2 posts a day, to writing 5 to 7 good quality articles instead.

Before I knew it, I can make twice my monthly income. That was when got confident enough to throw my letter in and told myself I will never work a 9-to-5.

Living a Changed Life

It’s weird how life can change so quickly. I never imagine myself being able to become a digital nomad and make 6 figures as a freelance content writer and the lesson I could take away from this event.

The Lesson I’ve Learnt to Become a Better Writer

Don’t wait for something to happen. No one is going to be there for you.

I took advantage of the time I have while being injured to make more money and find myself. It was hard and difficulty no doubt, but as the saying goes:

When life gives you lemon, make lemonade

My passion for writing has grown a lot more and I want everyone to know that they too can be better content writers with these strategies and mindset I use in my writing.

Well, Writing is not as bad as it seems😂

At first, I thought that writing was monotonous and soul-sucking. But as I pen down my feelings and emotions, writing seems to be a good way for me to express myself in words.

I’ve always thought no one is going to write people's writing, let alone mine. With Youtube and Tiktok, more people will be inclined to video content instead right? Not actually!

At the end of the day, people will still choose to read as a form of finding out detailed information which you can’t get from short 1 minute content on Tiktok.

There’s plenty of Money to be Made with Writing

I never thought writing would make 6 figure income, let alone let you become a digital nomad.

The power of writing is that the content compounds your money-making machine and will keep growing as long as you keep it running. The best part of all that is there are many ways to make money from writing. With content writing, you can:

  • Write and post on your blog to make money
  • Milk money through affiliates
  • Sell your content on Marker Content
  • Become a Freelancer on Fiverr and Upwork.
  • Join different Partnership such as Medium, Ghost, NewsBreak
  • Write and create a course to sell to others (will be doing this for myself soon)
  • Sell your very own book

As you can see, there are many ways to make money writing. It’s a mix-and-match of how you would like to build your writing empire.

Having a Side Income is Important

No one likes to get themselves injured, let alone break a leg as I did.

Thanks to my other side income, I can feel secure with my finances knowing I have passive income to rely on. Writing is kind of a hybrid way of making money, depending on which area you plan to lean on, you can potentially make passive income through writing.
