Summary

The author is hosting a giveaway of 2,022 claps on Medium, inspired by MrBeast, to celebrate their article potentially reaching 10,000 claps, with the winners being selected randomly from those who comment on the article.

Abstract

In a playful nod to the generosity of YouTube sensation MrBeast, the author announces their own version of a giveaway on the Medium platform. The contest involves distributing a total of 2,022 claps among participants who engage with the article by retweeting (though this is acknowledged as impossible) and mandatorily leaving a comment. The prize pool is tiered, with the first-place winner receiving 1,000 claps, second place 500 claps, and various smaller prizes down to the 22nd place, which will receive 22 claps. The author expresses excitement about potentially reaching a significant milestone of 10,000 claps on one of their articles and hints at future, more ambitious giveaways if this one proves successful. The giveaway's results will be announced within 72 hours, provided that at least eight people have commented. Additionally, the author offers a contingency plan for winners with fewer than a certain number of published articles, allowing them to transfer their prize claps to another writer of their choice.

Opinions

  • The author acknowledges that claps are a vanity metric but also suggests that they are universally appreciated by writers on Medium.
  • The giveaway is seen as a way to engage the community and promote interaction with the author's content.
  • There is a humorous tone in the article, particularly in the impossible task of retweeting a Medium article and the play on the number 22 to match the year.
  • The author is optimistic about the potential success of the giveaway and is considering scaling up future events, possibly hiring a team of clappers.
  • By offering to transfer claps to another writer, the author shows consideration for the diverse publishing experiences of the participants.
  • The author teases the possibility of reading some of the participants' articles, suggesting an interest in discovering new content and supporting other writers.

I Am Giving Away 2,022 Claps

That’s one small clap for me, one giant leap for your articles

A couple celebrating 2021 claps last year, but this is 2022, so …

In the spirit of the YouTube star MrBeast⁶⁰⁰⁰, here’s my first clap giveaway.

I know that claps are vanity metrics and don’t mean anything. But don’t we all like them? One of my articles might soon reach 10,000 claps, and I’m super excited about it.

But enough with the shameless self-promo, and let’s get to the clap of this article.

To enter the draw:

  1. Retweet this article on Medium (I know, it’s impossible, but if you manage, you get 22 bonus claps) — optional
  2. Leave a comment — mandatory
  3. Winners will be picked randomly and announced in 72hours⁴²

Smillew Clap Giveaway Prize Clap:

  • First place: 1,000 claps
  • Second place: 500 claps
  • Third place: 300 claps
  • 4th to 8th place: 40 claps
  • 9th place: 0 clap
  • 10th to 21st place: also 0 clap
  • 22nd place: 22 claps

Total Prize Clap: 2,022 claps

Notes:

⁴² In 72 hours, as long as the minimum of 8 commenters was reached. Should it not happen, the giveaway will be extended by increments of 72 hours.

⁶⁰⁰⁰ MrBeast handle on YouTube is mrbeast6000. I pondered giving away 6,000 claps, but I ruled against it as it was too much for me to handle at the time. If this giveaway is a success, I’ll hire a team of clappers and raise the stakes.

Technicality:

Should you win one of the grand prizes of 1,000 claps and have less than 20 articles published (respectively 500/10 and 300/6), I will transfer the outstanding amount of claps to the writer of your choice.

End clap:

And, who knows, I might even read some of the articles!
