PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
I am Fascinated by the Skies
Week 53 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
This week started the way the last week ended. With spectacular cloud formations and stunning sunsets. And sunrises. I’ve actually been awake a few times this week early enough to catch the first light of the day.
But since this challenge is about sharing one photo a day I might have to share all those precious treasures in a different post. Here’s my selection for this week’s best moments and objects caught on camera.

Instead of always keeping the setting sun in focus I decided to look at the opposite sky. The clouds above the horizon getting reflected by the last light of the day. A beautiful day is coming to an end.

I’ve spoken about wildlife at airports before but I struggle to capture these fast-paced rabbits. Every morning they occupy the runway chasing each other up and down the tarred road. These animals are rather huge. Probably more like a hare than a rabbit.
This isn’t the best shot of one of these animals but the only one I got so far. I’m staying for the entire month on the airfield so maybe I’ll get better shots next week.

I’ve been doing a few tandem jumps this week and I’m enjoying my days up in the air. But I do love to change things up now and then and was very happy when I was manifested as a camera flyer once today.
I took this picture just after leaving the plane. Two cameras are mounted on my helmet capturing everything I look at.

Back home again. Today was a windy day and therefore no more jumping. We drove home and settled back into our cozy flat in the mountains. Just for a few days. Wednesday I’ll drive away again. For work.

I was joining my husband at work today when I got inspired by these gliders taking off. I’ve seen gliders being pulled by a plane to get up in the air but I’ve never seen them getting pulled by a winch at the end of the runway.
You need to look closely to spot the glider, it’s just above the tree line. Students were learning to fly, some of them as young as 14 years old. The winch pulls them up steep and at the end of the runway the rope just drops down. Gently with a tiny parachute on top of it. Loved that feature.
The black dot in the picture in front of the glider is that parachute.

Today we went paddling on the river. My husband with the kayak and I went on the stand-up paddleboard. As we were going downriver a swan swam across from the other side of the river. I was very surprised to see him swim straight towards us since they are usually rather shy. Unless you got food for them.
The swan came up to two meters to us. He swam around us and when we continued our paddle he followed us. With some distance but he came closer when we made a break. It looked like he thought he found new friends.
When we turned around the swan was waiting for us next to an island. Greeting us again as we came closer. It was such a lovely encounter with this lone bird.

And those two days of rest were quickly over again. Back to my office. Here I am again in the position of the camera flyer capturing a tandem skydive with the two GoPros mounted on my helmet.
This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome everyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge sometime last year and many have participated ever since.
