Hurrah! The New Bonus Wave Is Here

Yippee! Hurrah! It’s worth looking at your earnings today. I just checked them and found I received another cash bonus from Medium — with no official email yet.
Three times in a row Medium has awarded me a cash bonus for ‘high member engagement’= ‘member reads, claps, and follows.’
Getting the bonus three times in a row has shown me it’s worthwhile to stay on the ball, to regularly hit the keys, and to publish regularly — even on holidays. Currently, I’m in the so-called ‘German Hamptons’ to take some rewind time.
Instead of counting emails and checking stats, I’m counting clouds. LOL.
I treated my writing on Medium as a job and business
I’ve started treating my writing as less of a hobby and more of a job. I’ve learned that dedicated time to the craft is a MUST. It’s hard though with a job and a baby.
For me, writing bears repeating over and over again. Every. Single. Day! Even if it’s only for 15 minutes.
For writing on Medium, consistency, a routine, and a designated time are crucial, as well as a writing zone, where I can sit down and put pen to paper — with a smile on my face.
I’m one of the top 2,000 writers
I feel honored and grateful to be one of the Top 2,000 writers on Medium. I think the secret to my success is a combination of treating my writing as a job, working my a** off for Medium, and the updated algorithm.
After being one of the lucky ones to get the $500 bonus in April and being one of the top 1,000 writers, last month I got a $50 bonus for being under the top 2,000. This month I received a $100 cash bonus for being one of the top 1,500 writers.
For April, I did a thorough analysis of the secret sauce of my success for you. Because my motto is: If I can do it, you can do it too!
I published 24 articles in one month. I have taken a closer look at the statistics, metrics, and posts in April and analyzed them here.
What did I do differently?
To put it in a nutshell:
- I somehow failed my 30-Day Challenge
- I suffered from Mothers Block. Nevertheless, I’ve managed to publish 24 articles.
- My creative output was: 9 articles in short form (a short form post is 150 words or fewer) and 16 articles in long form.
- The 7 pubs I hang out the most: The Shortform,Modern Parent, A Parent is born, Family Matters, Hello Love, WOTWU, Illumination
- All 16 articles were chosen for further distribution (CFFD)
- I made a point of continuing to reply to every comment. But sometimes I had to delay the answering a bit. I just couldn’t manage to look through all 100 notifications.
- I think it is very important not to be a lone wolf on Medium. Therefore, I jumped on the ‘let’s get relational train’. When appropriate, I referenced others’ articles in my post or tagged them.
👉I tripled my earnings.

Why did I get the bonuses? It’s all about ‘High Member Engagement’
For the cash bonus payouts, Medium explained, a ‘high member engagement’ is crucial. This is characterized by ‘member reads, claps and follows’. Read more about it in this article.
To put it in a nutshell:
- Member reads: they have increased by a quarter compared to the previous month
2. Member claps: I received about 300 claps for my short and long articles on average
3. Member followers: I organically received 200 new fans. As described, I attribute this to the fact that I have broadened my base and write for different publications.
Writer Cash Bonus FAQs for July
Like the other writers on this platform, I was also wondering whether there would be a third bonus wave this summer. In a personal email, Medium revealed that there definitely will be a third and even a fourth wave of cash bonuses.
I’ve collected the frequently asked questions (FAQs) I got and read.
To put it in a nutshell:
1. 👍Despite the June bonus wave, there will be another one in July 2021.
2. 👍There’s a tiered structure:
Top 1,000: $ 500 bonus
1,001–1,500: $100 bonus
1,501–2,000: $50 bonus’ Medium
3. 👍Publish at least two stories and be fully enrolled in the Partner Program (fill in your tax form!)
