If you are just starting out on a service-based business (eg. coaching, consultancy, counselling), be warned: stress is inevitable.

From being an employee to an entrepreneur, you are likely to go through a lot of changes. The changes are not just external but internal as well. The transition into entrepreneurship could bring about excitement at first; but may turn into frustration, disappointment and despair especially when success is not coming as quickly as you’ve hoped. At this point, you may feel like giving up!

Well, as I recall, one thing that had helped me greatly to keep going when I was just starting out is this: changing the stories that I told myself.

These days, as a coach who offers emotional healing services, I find it imperative that I stick to a daily regime that involves scanning my negative stories so that I can reframe them. I recognise that I need to be in an optimal energy state before I show up for my clients. And changing the stories I tell myself helps!

If I get stuck in my limiting stories, I usually get assistance from another coach. Together, we work on changing the way I look at things. Hopefully, it doesn’t sound cliche…but it is true that getting help on mindset changes is one of the best things I have done for my business!

Indeed, the stories that we tell ourselves shape our reality. We can certainly turn frustration, disappointment and despair into lessons for growth. By changing our inner script, we are likely to show up with greater confidence, empowerment and generosity. This helps us to attract the clients who’d like to experience the same for themselves!

Transform Your Mindset, Transform Your Business

Obviously, if the story that you keep repeating to yourself is not serving you in terms of business success, consider changing it to a more positive one. Changing your script helps us to feel better and you are less likely to give up.

I’d like to highlight 3 negative stories that you can choose to reframe…

Mindset Reframe #1 From: Business is slow, no one wants to work with me. To: I am given more time to hold a bigger space and to upgrade my skills in preparation for the clients that are about to come.

Mindset Reframe #2 From: I am doing it all wrong. To: I am learning from my mistakes, so that I can do things better.

Mindset Reframe #3 From: It works for her, but somehow I just can’t do it. To: I choose to believe in myself and I intend to keep at improving my services and offers.

One caveat though: you are likely to a greater buy-in on a reframe once you have released any excessive negative emotions. So if you are feeling frustrated, disappointed or even angry, work on releasing these first. Then, go for the reframe and change your mental stories.

To build the business that you love, cultivating resilience is key. You are in this for the long haul. And success starts with your mindset!
