How was Haiti After the 2010 Earthquake
Telling my story

In my short story, Haiti Flatlined, I bring the audience on what one day in Operation Unified Response was like.
As many know, the earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010 was catastrophic and they had not recovered from the last disaster yet. If someone thought he country was bad before the earthquake, it was at least twice as bad now, from disease, poverty, and gangs.
The unit I was in, the 209th Military Police Company, was there February 2010 — June 2010. We stayed at 4 different locations while we were there. The first place was a field that used to be for cows, so it was just a muddy pit with lots of mosquitos. I mean lots of mosquitoes! The second place we stayed at was a graveled lot with banana trees right next to our tent — meaning, ants got everywhere! The third place we stayed was a large soccer field. This soccer field was special, it had thousands of little holes in it. The holes were the size of 50 cent pieces. Inside each of these holes were tarantulas. Last place was good, it was near the airport and we could see the planes take off from the runway and return to the runway.
The book describes what driving on the streets were like in Haiti, about the local populace, about the destruction the earthquake brought with it, about the mission, about the military operations, and what I liked most.
In this book I show pictures that my unit took while we there. Some of the photos are:
