The Power of Poetry
How To Write What You Want To Say

It’s my job to capture moments in time and immobilize them with words. But sometimes, the things that make us happy are not what we think they are. Sometimes we still have to work out a solution even if it doesn’t feel right. And sometimes, the words — the perfectly crafted lines and stanzas we think we need to say — aren’t really helping anyone. And I think that’s been happening a lot lately with how I’ve been using my writing. It’s an adorable feeling to have someone read your writing and feel something in their heart or head, but what about the space when you stop writing? That’s where I’m at now. Not sure if this makes sense, so I’ll try again.
This poem is about words. (please scroll down to read it) It’s about the way they bring us together, the way they make people laugh, and the way they can tear you apart. This poem is about how sometimes a message can separate us, but it can also be what brings us together. It’s about how we both love and hate language — language is a blessing and curse wrapped in one. Words are beautiful. Words are brutal.

Poetry is everywhere 💚 But the question is, how much do you love it?
I’m not what you’re wanting And I’m not what you need. I am irritation, I am furrowed brows, The way the wet ground wants to freeze. A long conversation with me will only make you madder, Ask me instead for a piece of advice that’s easy — a breakdancer’s backflip. I’m not the first thing that comes to mind when you’re looking for a solution, But I might be something that you want to remember. I’ve got one more thing to say before I go (and you’re already on your phone), But it’s not a song, it’s not a video, and also, it’s not prose. And it’s this: good luck with all that. The poem ends here.
