Self-Improvement #ILLUMINATION
How to Use Your Challenges to Motivate Yourself
A 3-step formula for personal growth.
Self-Improvement is not a one-size-fits-all proposition.
I have 26 open tabs on my browser right now. Why so many? I have bookmarked the stories I want to read today, and that’s just from #ILLUMINATION.
Assuming that each one is about a 3–5 minutes story, it should take me an hour and a half to two hours to read them. I wish. You see, I am a phonetic reader, and that means it will take me at least two to three times as long to read them. That’s five to six hours, not counting stopping to contemplate on what I read, distractions, or redirects from internal links.
There goes my day. How am I suppose to get any writing done?
Self Improvement is an art and a science. However, it is not complicated. It is a process that can be summed up in three words: Awareness, Acknowledgment, and Attitude.
Know Thyself
I write about Self-Improvement. I know that it is not a one-size-fits-all proposition. When embarking upon the journey of growth, the first thing you should do is a thorough self-analysis. We need to identify the areas in which we need to progress the most. For me, that encompasses two things: Learning to speedread and improve my typing speed. I am a hunt-and-peck typist.
What are the areas that you need to work on the most?
You are not broken
Another thing is that most of the self-help literature assumes that you are somehow broken or deficient, and you need to work on yourself to become “better.” While becoming better is an admirable goal, keep in mind that better is a comparative form of good.
You are already good; striving to get better.
The fact that you are on a journey of self-improvement proves that you are longing to grow. A desire for advancement is praiseworthy. There is nothing wrong with you.
You will face Challenges
As you work on yourself, you will encounter problems and difficulties; that is part of the process. If you begin with the thought that you are somehow weak or deficient, the challenges you face will drag you down.
However, if you start with the belief that you precisely are where you’re supposed to be on your path of progress, the difficulties you face will be your fuel and motivation to persevere and become a better version of yourself.
The bottom Line
Your mindset is everything. You are a divine creation designed with evolution in your DNA. You cannot help but grow and prosper.
As you make progress, you will find that everything you need for the next part of your journey is already lined up and waiting for you.
Remember, the Universe is always conspiring for you. Let it.
