How to Use What’s Trending to Promote Your Older Stories
Do you always keep the same old stories pinned to your profile?

This week was Valentine’s Day, and besides that, it’s still Black History Month. In harmony with something that one smart Medium writer wrote, I took a cue from what Ilam Padmanabhan said in a story written about checking your stats.
He made a statement that said the following:
“…see which posts are trending today…”
While it may not have pertained to what I was thinking, I realized that the tip had given me the idea to use trending topics as a way to help promote some older stories.
So instead of leaving the same story titles pinned to my profile, I changed them. And instead of assuming that all my pinned stories should be about Medium, I pinned the stories that are trending, or at least most relevant this week.
This story published in the Songstories publication is about love — but it’s about the things I love in life, both animate and inanimate.
This formerly published story in the Illumination-Curated publication is clearly a good one to remind readers about, particularly for Black History Month. I’d say that talking about black teachers who instill pride is definitely a worthwhile, and trending topic.
Final Thoughts
As we all know, some interesting things happen when we start going back, trying to revive older stories.
This is what happened to me, thanks to searching through my past stories.
In the process of going back to find some trending or relative stories to pin to my profile this week, I selected the story about black teachers. As you might notice, the image I use in this story is one of my own.
Seeing the story helped me recall that this was one of my stories that was chosen for further distribution, in early 2021. This designation made the story eligible to be accepted by Illumination-Curated.
This information couldn’t have come at a better time, because I just published a story titled: I Think I Know Why My Stories Stopped Getting Distributed!
In that story, I mention how I used to always get my stories selected, but for some reason, it stopped. I ponder over whether the reason could be related to the images I choose to use.
Based on that theory, this re-discovery of the above-mentioned curated story is an important one. It might just be true, that using certain types of images or certain sites may be self defeating.
You’ll be doing yourself a favor by giving this story a read.
