How to Treat Your Home Like a Luxury Hotel

You are an amazing guest

The power of finding beauty in the humblest things makes home happy and life lovely. -Louisa May Alcott

During some of my free time, I have found great joy in learning about luxury hotels worldwide. I love to watch videos about them, learn about how beautiful they are, what food they serve, and what amenities are available.

As a result of my interest in these hotels, I now desire to create more beauty at home. It can be done without remodeling or buying anything.

It is the beauty of joyful minimalism. You can create luxury with small details.

After witnessing the care that hotels take to keep their rooms tidy and clean, I feel inspired to do the same. I am generally a neat and tidy person. However, now I spend a little more time cleaning to make sure our home feels like a luxury hotel.

Here are some ways that you can create that luxury hotel feeling in your own home. You can achieve this by using what you already have.

Name Your Home

Creating a name for your home establishes a luxury feel. I choose to call our home, ‘Ainsworth Manor’. You can choose to use your last name or your favorite location as a name for your home.

Once you have a name, you can use it in everyday conversation whenever you refer to your house. If you are so inclined, you can even create a sign or a wreath with your home name on it to place on your door.

Establish a Daily Clean Sweep

Even as a guest in your home, you need to take a turn as a housekeeper. If other guests are staying at your manor, you can request their help as well. Establish areas that must be cleaned daily and weekly.

The main detail is to keep the floors, table surfaces and counters clean at all times. In a luxury locale, keeping these areas clean is paramount.

It is important to note that this clean sweep does not take a lot of time. The daily list includes: sweep, mop, clean the main bathroom, do dishes, make the bed, and do laundry. This list only takes me about 30–45 minutes to complete each day.

My son and husband help with daily and weekly manor maintenance activities as well. We are all part of keeping our manor neat, tidy, and beautiful.

Declutter to Create An Open Feel

What I notice about luxury hotels is that they are minimalist. They may have a lot of fine details, but they are not cluttered with too many items.

Remove anything that does not feel like a hotel. When we travel, we feel a unique sense of peace while staying in hotel rooms. That is because they are sparse and clean. It gives our eyes a chance to rest.

Go through your rooms with fresh eyes. Pretend that your home is a luxury hotel and you are the guest. How do the rooms feel to you? Would you choose to stay here? Declutter anything that does not feel right to you.

Open Up Your Spa

In your home, you may have a few soaps or spa products. When was the last time you take some time out of your day to use them?

Establish a spa in your own home by choosing one evening a week when the establishment is open. Make an appointment with yourself. I have chosen Sunday nights as my spa night.

Two treatments that you can treat yourself to at home are a face mask and a foot soak.

For a foot soak, you just need a large, low container, some soap that forms bubbles, and a towel. You can put on your favorite music, make some tea and let your feet soak in the warm water.

There are many face mask treatments you can make with simple ingredients in your kitchen. You may also have a product in your cabinet already. Experiment and find one that works best for you.

Use Your Best Dishes

For your meals, bring out any decorative dishes you have. This will create a feeling of luxury and add a special touch to your day. Recently, I started to use a porcelain creamer to put milk in my coffee or tea throughout the day. It makes it feel like I am treating myself to extra service. I love that it was something I already had in my cabinet that I could use.

Bring out anything pretty or fancy that you only use to entertain others and use it every day. You will begin to feel like a luxury guest at your manor during every meal.

Offer Turn Down Service

Some evenings, offer yourself or others that live with you turn down service. You can plump up the pillows on the bed, pull back the covers and even include a towel animal for everyone’s entertainment.

On some days, you may even include a mint or chocolate on the pillow. This makes your experience even more luxurious.

Hold a Party in Your Lounge

Once in a while, offer a party in the living room or lounge of your hotel. If you have a pretty pitcher or punch bowl, serve some juice or sparkling water in it.

Find some simple recipes for party foods and place them on trays or bowls. Make festivity just for yourself or for family members in your manor.

This will give you something to look forward to. It also adds to the amenities of your luxury space.

When we treat our homes and ourselves with care, we create a beautiful world around us.

We can all live in a luxurious space no matter our budget. We only need to have the imagination to use what we have to create beauty.

My prayer and my intention for you is to treat your home like a luxury hotel. Give it the love, care, and daily attention it deserves. In turn, you will feel like a special guest in your own space.
