You need to adapt the skills and discipline of a ninja to be a master in writing. No one wakes up one day and is a ninja. The same is true for a writer. You didn’t wake up one day and say you’re a writer.

As a writer, you have to put in the time to hone your craft. You learned at an early age your alphabet. From there, you formed sentences. Before you know it, you had paragraphs. Your day as a writer is just getting started. A life of a ninja could open your eyes to what is required to master this art.

Originally, ninjas were trained to move stealthily in ancient Japan over 800 years ago using a Japanese martial arts called ninjitsu. Ninjitsu is a martial art that is also called the art of stealth or invisibility. Ninjas served as military spies and originally they were associated with assassinations and espionage. Today ninjas are more commonly used for physical fitness and self-defense.

How does a writer become like a ninja? You may think a ninja needs their arms or legs would be the most important. Actually, a ninja relies on their eyes. Eyes were the most important part of the body for a ninja.

Ninjas trained in the mountains and this helped their eyes to focus on what is important to them. Ninjas used two methods to see better with their eyes. They focused on static objects which is called static vision. The other way ninjas used their eyes was called dynamic vision to focus on objects that moved.

In training, the ninja would put holes in a Japanese paper. With a lamp, their objective was to count the holes from faraway. Another training method they used was to see objects in the green leafy forests. Without streetlights in the mountains, their eyes became more accustomed to the natural light and the surroundings.

Training the ninja helped them become a better martial artist. As a writer, you need to do the same. This may mean trying to perfecting a new writing style. As a writer, this could mean adopting new habits so you can write consistently.

Just because you wrote a story one day, doesn’t mean you’re automatically a writer. You need to put in the time. Just as a ninja puts in hours and hours of training, you as a writer have to do the same.
