How To Tidy up Your Online World: Finding Peace in Less

Letting go of the old self

“Letting go of the past means opening up to the future, and sometimes the unknown is scarier than the past.” ― Tamara Lechner, The Happiness Reset: What to do When Nothing Makes You Happy

A faint and gentle whisper from the universe has been calling me lately. When walking in the garden, doing yoga, or quietly thinking, I hear the words: clean up your website. On my 100-day journey exploring habits, routines, and creativity, this is a perfect wake-up call.

These are wise words coming from beyond. This past year, I have made a transition from a professional organizer to write about personal growth lessons.

My mind often wanders and wonders about what to do with my business and website right now. I feel an overwhelming pull to keep writing and sharing my life to help others.

However, there is a question about the business I started just over two years ago.

A website or any online platform you use is like an imprint of who you are. It is why I feel called to make some changes to reflect who I have become and where I am going rather than who I was.

I want to share with you three ways you can clean up your online world to show the world who you are right now.

Tidy Up Your Online Home:

A website is your online home. It is your domain where you get to set your own rules and stage.

You have complete creative control over what is on your site.

I am glad that I chose a broad name for my website: www.expansive.me. It allows me to grow and change with the site, as I become a different person day by day.

If you have a website or blog, check it over to make sure it shows who you are at this moment.

It is perfectly okay to change it often. Throughout this year, I have made many changes to my site. I added services and removed others, changed my offerings, prices, and more.

However, now it is time to look at each facet of my site and make sure it is my current online home.

Things you can look at include your blog posts, paid offerings, resources, biography, and photos. These tell a story about who you are and what you do to help others.

Are all of those current and things you still want to offer and put out into the world?

This week I will be asking myself the same questions about everything on my site. I want to start hosting more of my writing there as well.

I am in the process of deciding what business offerings to keep. It is a beautiful process of becoming someone new every day.

How can you clean up your online home?

Sweep Each Platform:

There are so many places to be online. There are social media platforms, networking platforms, writing platforms, video platforms, and more.

Every so often, we need to go through each platform with a discerning eye. It will help us get clear on who we are and where we are going.

Here are some questions to ask during your sweep:

Do I still want to participate on this platform?

Do I feel good being here?

Do I like the results I am getting for the time I am putting in here?

How is my audience engagement here?

Is my profile up to date?

These questions will help you decide to stay on a platform, leave, increase or decrease your engagement on that site.

Currently, I have accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Medium, and News Break.

The ones I use most and have the best engagement are Medium, NewsBreak, YouTube, and Twitter. It is something for me to consider.

As of late spring last year, I have not shared many personal posts on social media. I prefer communicating through my writing or by personal communication. I have kept Facebook and Instagram. However, I am considering letting those go.

What platforms do you enjoy most?

Let Go of Old Tasks:

Sometimes there are tasks that we methodically do every day or every week without thought. One of those tasks for me was writing a weekly newsletter.

This newsletter was to share some wisdom and action steps and keep my audience up to date on my latest offerings.

I have put this newsletter on hold for the past few months. I did not feel it provided enough value for my readers, and I needed to take a break.

Also, I was not getting a lot of feedback on it. I was doing it blindly with little of an outcome.

I may come back with a monthly newsletter. It will be mostly about my personal growth writing with action steps for the readers.

Right now, I am taking a break to figure out what would be most helpful for others. Letting go of this task frees me up to think about the direction of my life.

I want what I do to help others and light up their hearts.

Are there some tasks that you can let go of?

My prayer for you today is for you to clean up your online world. Take a look at your website, blog, and social media accounts. Do those reflect who you are now? How is your engagement there? Does it serve others?
