How to Start A Medium Blog That Generates $100 In A Week
When I saw my March earnings of $266.35, I changed my game plan.

How to start a blog for free with no money
Blogs are a dime and a dozen. When I first started writing on Medium, I didn’t want to use the word ‘blogging’. All I wanted was to write.
I tried a dozen times to start a website. I would pay for the domain name and web hosting. I would then abandon the website as soon as I ran out of ideas.
On Medium, I only need to write and even the monthly membership fee is optional. As soon as you start earning money from Medium, the $5 monthly fee pays for itself.
I was about to quit.
I wasn’t quitting on writing; I was quitting on trying to make money as a Medium writer.
Medium writing is not a get-quick-rich scheme, you stay until you figure it out unless your inner saboteur gets to you and tells you to quit.
👉 Takeaway — You can write a blog on Medium for free.
How to make money on Medium.com?
You can earn money from Medium by joining the Medium Partner Program and their Referral Program.
Once you’re accepted to the MPP, always double-check if you have monetized your Medium blog.
Once you’re done writing your story, click Publish.
Make sure the checkbox Meter my story so it is eligible to earn money is checked.
Click Publish now to publish your post.
Both are optional. You don’t have to make money on Medium. You can write as much as you like. It’s free.
I hope you will be encouraged by my journey.
It all started in 2020, I made $1.41, and my next goal then was to pay the $5 monthly fee from my earnings.
It was enough that I was writing every day, and was able to start a blog for free with no money.
It wasn’t until Medium gave performance bonuses for four months, that I told myself, ‘Wait, I can make money from writing online!’

I count myself lucky to get a total of $1,150 in those 4 months.
Without the bonuses, my Medium Partner Program earnings hardly go beyond $100 a month.
But whenever money comes my way, I’m always grateful, and tell the Universe, ‘Arigato, Money!’
Looking at my payment history, I had a great run from April 2021 — to October 2021.
They say only 6% of Medium writers make $100 or more a month. I must be doing something right.
But from November 2021-January 2022 I made less than $100 and barely made $100 in February.
By the end of February, I had to make a decision, should I do something else with my life? The inner saboteur’s voice was becoming louder each day.
I wasn’t quitting on writing; I was quitting on trying to make money as a Medium writer.
Then halfway through March, my earnings were up, and I ended up with $266.35. I more than doubled my February earnings.
My hard work paid off. And all because I paid attention to my titles.
That’s it, no big secret, nor magic.
Want definitive proof?

Today, when I checked my MPP earnings I made $103.39 in a week, actually in six days.
Again, all because of better headlines.
Many writers have said it before if you don’t write the title that readers click, then your story gets lost on the web.
In 2021, 7.5 million blog posts were published every day, and 47,000 new stories were published on Medium.com each day!
Thanks, J.J. Pryor for the data.

Medium blogging for beginners

This article by Hogan Torah changed the way I write headlines, and how to use the headline analyzer properly. What numbers to look for, and what do they mean?
A must-read for everyone.
Good Headline = Good Money
Bad Headline = Zero Money
👉 Takeaway — Use a headline analyzer, and rewrite your headlines. 👉 Bonus Tip — Google search your headline, if it answers what People are asking on Google, it means you have a good title, but again, rewrite your title and make it better.

My Plan
Now that I know what works for me, first, let me put a disclaimer here:
I can’t guarantee the same results as the guy in informercials would say, because even if we do things the same way, the results will vary.
My goal is to make $500 in April. Once I reached my goal, I would try other platforms, like YouTube.
When asked, why I’m not doing YouTube videos, my reply would always be, ‘I don’t know what to say.’ But isn’t all a script need is good writing?
To make it happen;
- Write 10 stories in a month, which will make $50 each.
- Write 5 stories each week, which will make $25 each.
Using my 7-day formula
- First week of April — I have written at least 5 stories this week that could earn me $25 each next week. Goal: $125. (Revenue from stories published on March 25 -31.)
- Second week of April — I have to write at least 10 stories that can make $25 each for week 3 and week 4. Goal: $125 (Revenue from stories published on April 1- 7.)
- Third week of April — Only write if revenues fall short. Goal: $125 (Revenue from stories published on April 8- 14.)
- Fourth week of April — Write stories for May. Goal: $125 (Revenue from stories published on April 8–14.)
What to Write About?
My plan can only work if I write about a proven niche where I have made money in the past. Yes, the sooner you have this conversation with yourself the faster you will see results.
I talked about it here. 👇
I need to write in a niche that Medium found for me, health and movies. I happened to be a top writer on those two topics.
Your niche could be any topic, but look out for your first story that made money. That’s what Medium wants you to write.
In an ideal world I would love to write about anything, but in the world, I live in, someone has to pay for the coffee I drink and that’s me.
The conversation took me almost two years, and I wish that yours will not take that long if you plan on making money as a Medium writer.
👉 Takeaway — You need to make a decision, write for money or not?
Final words
Blogging for money isn’t evil, it pays for the rent. One must simply find their balance. Even while writing for a niche, you can still call on your writing muse for inspiration.
By not worrying about money, you can focus on the topics you want to write about after you reach your monthly money goals.
I need to be smart if I don’t want to quit.
I’m still experimenting with which headlines work best, and we can only look at the data in front of us.
I’ll leave you a tweet I received from Hogan, and I wish the same for you.
You gotta dig deep for the good stuff. And I’ve been seeing you a lot more on my main page. You’re kicking ass. I love it. — Hogan
