A Guide for Writers on Medium to write with confidence on this platform and make sure you are here after ten years.

What to do if Medium suspended your account? Photo by Jon Tyson on Unsplash

April 3rd was the painful day I woke up thinking about writing something new on Medium. I pick up my phone and go to my Medium stats. Guilty, I check my stats every day I woke up. I find something peculiar in my stats, there were no statistics.

The next thing I did is to open the incognito window and type a keyword where one of my articles get ranked in Google search, I found my article and when I clicked on it, the following message shows up.

A 410 error citing that your Medium account is suspended

The very first thing I did when I see this is to write a Tweet to the Medium support handle.

A Tweet to Medium support when my Medium account has been suspended. I asked Medium support to review my Medium account.

With the blank of an eye, the whole year of my working on Medium goes to zero. This thing hurt me the most. But, as a hustler, I have still to repost everything. But, for the luck of, it didn’t happen.

One thing I remember all those 14 painful hours is a quote from Gary Vaynerchuk

The only differentitor in the game is your passion and your hustle.

Now, the whole day I have mixed feelings about Medium. Questions like, “What Medium rule did I break?”, “Should I start to make a new profile?” and countless other questions.

My Medium 30 days stats and the day my account is suspended on Medium

As you can see in the statistics above, I was getting 5,000 to 6,000 hits every day but on that mysterious 3rd of April, I have just received 183 views which I got just before getting suspended on Medium.

One thing I was sure about is that “I am going to start over again” I have made some very good friends and most of the backlinks I have made for my Medium articles will be lost. If you writing on Medium then learning Search engine optimization is part of your job.

Medium is going to be the Netflix for writers. It is just 8 years old platform and with time it has more growth opportunities. Nobody should miss this great opportunity.

If your Medium account is suspended then you can use two ways to contact them;

  1. The first way is to directly Email Medium support at; [email protected], and send them the address of your Medium account and cite your problem.
  2. The second way is to go to the Medium help center and submit a request. You can directly submit your request here. Follow the instructions and you will receive a reply in the next 14 to 20 hours.

The office of the Medium is located in Los Angeles, so you will receive a reply during working hours according to the LA time standard.

What should you never do on Medium in order to not getting your account suspended?

The thing I learned while being 1 year on Medium and successfully getting my account restored on Medium. I want the same thing that doesn’t happen with writers on Medium.

  1. Adding external links: If you are adding any external links to your Medium article, go to that link and analyzed it. If the site uses any spammy thing, don’t add it. I have added videos on my blog post where Pay per click ads was showing up. I removed them because I think that maybe the problem.
  2. Respect other people's content: If you are copying a line or a paragraph make sure to include the link of that blog post. Don’t plagiarize. Add pictures from sites like Unsplash or make your own through Canva.
  3. Don’t write against anyone. Yes, even if you think, you are right, even you know you have the proofs but still don’t alter a single word on your Medium stories. A businessman likes Elon Musk, Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg never going to criticize a religion, or any right group because this may impact their business. Take Medium as your Business and your every Medium story as a Product.
  4. Automating any process: Many people use Bots to follow other people, even if you follow 150 people a day, do it manually. Don’t use any automating means to trigger their system. They will suspend your account.
  5. There are different rules for people who write unlocked stories on Medium and locked stories on Medium. If you are writing locked (Only for Medium members) stories and drive traffic to external sites, that’s against Medium policies.

Use these tips and I am going to see you on Medium for very long.

If you think you didn’t violate any of their policy then you can email them or contact their support team and hopefully, your account will be restored. Some people on Medium do mistakes and then they blame Medium for censoring content, which is quite a very non-factual thing.

I love the way they have added a scent to their editor, it is a fun part of being writing on Medium and I love the process of publishing on this platform and getting paid. This article is directly targeted to the people who are writing on Medium, so I am hopeful you will find this article helpful.

After 14 hours of painful, full of doubts and questioning my writing, Medium send me an email confirming that they wrongfully put my account into spam filter and restored my Medium account.

Einstein once described the special theory of relativity as;

Let say, a group of hot girls is walking past in front of you, a 1 hour will look a minute to you, but if someone lets you stand on a hot steel bar for 1-minute, that 1-minute will look like an hour to you.
