How To Make $100 a Month On Medium Without Getting Curated or Published in Popular Publication
I am going to play the statistics game with you. This is the real case study about being in the 9% of Medium earners.
I am very disappointed when someone complains about the Medium partner program because they aren’t making any money from their Medium stories.
The simple statistics is that;
- If a story on Medium makes you $10, then you need 10 stories to reach $100 mark.
- If a story on Medium on average make you $5, then you need to write 20 stories a month.
- If a story on medium makes you $1 then you need to publish 100 stories on Medium.
How much money did I make in the three months? (From Jan. To March 2020)
- In the very first month, I have made $4.5
- In the second month (Fab.) I have made $44.5
- In the third month, I have made over $80.
Keeping the trend in the mind, I am going to cross $100 this month, I already have a story where I discussed making passive income on Medium.
That’s a simple calculation. This is a number game.
We are talking about making money on Medium without getting curated and without getting published in a popular publication.
What I am sharing with you guys is what I do to pull $100 a month on Medium.
Writing about things you are interested in
This is what writers who are making a good amount of money are doing it. You can’t be a jack of all trades. Master one skill. A person who tries and fails a single skill multiple times a day is going to be more talented and lucky then a person who just tried once in a day.
If you are interested in a topic, make sure you never leave a single thing.
Once a reporter asks a football coach about “his views on Noval CoronaVirus” and the football coach replied “I am no expert in this field, ask me about things I know about” this is a very good and timely reply. Instead of looking stupid, you can actually focus on things you know about and look smarter.
I have a YouTube channel with my name “Aamir Kamal” wherein the very beginning, I upload anything I know about. I have no focal point. Now, I realized that if you want to be a brand in something, you should speak about things you know about. This is where the concept of branding strikes. Without branding yourself in a niche, you aren’t going to win it.
The simple statistics are;
- A person who has 1000 followers who are interested in a single topic is going to receive a good response than a person with 2,000 followers but with different interests.
- A person who writes about a single topic is having good chances of going viral than a person who writes about multiple topics.
Sharing your stories to Facebook Medium member groups
I am not going to lie. If you are making $10 to $20 a month, you can hit the $50 mark easily if you share your stories consistently (every day) on those Facebook Medium member groups.
In the very beginning days of my joining as a Medium partner program, I shared my stories there and it made me a good $20 a month. These people also clap for your articles.
Actually, these groups were made to get more claps but since the medium has changed their system of paying writers — Now you get paid through Medium member read time not based on the number of claps or engagement you receive on your medium stories.
Research before publishing
Research about topics you are going to include in your medium stories. Search about the keywords that might help you getting evergreen traffic.
The ranking of your medium story on Google.
This is my favorite part of the game. You, me and everyone are in the game where everyone is beneficial.
There are thousands of writers on Medium and most of them are very active and publish content on Medium. The medium search engine is the worst, you can’t find relevant articles if you use the medium search bar, Instead, you can use Google to find your own articles. What if your medium article is there on the search engine? You will get more medium members to read time and so, will make more money.
Publish more often
Remember the simple statistics I have shared with you guys. The rule is simple. If you are an absolute beginner then your first goal on Medium should be to publish more stories. Once, you reach a level where you have enough following and have a great user base, everything you look statistics to you.
Set a goal
If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy and inspires your hopes.— Andrew Carnegie
My first-month goal was to publish more stories and don’t bother about my earnings. My second-month goal was to market my stories across platforms like Quora and my own blog. So, set yourself a goal.
