How to Live in Joy

Day 27: Planning a staycation in our home resort brought joy today!

Today I told my dear friend that I would be working for 2 more weeks, then I am going to block off a week for vacation. Normally this time of year we would be getting ready to travel somewhere as a family, but this year we are planning a staycation.

I believe this will be a time of rediscovery. This will be a time of connection. This will be a time of true joy. A time to discover the beauty of our own backyard. A time to value every ray of sunshine. A time to enjoy the soft breeze. A time to get lost in a book on the back patio. A time to let go.

Instead of mourning the loss of a vacation we would have taken, I am choosing to look at this time as one of the best vacations yet. One where we get to enjoy every moment, savor every day, together. To enter another realm, all we have to do is step outside. To feel the magic of summer season, all we have to do is change our mindset. We have the freedom to choose.

We have planned continental breakfasts, pool time in a blow-up pool, water games, special tropical drinks we will create, time to read magazines and books and best of all, time to just be.

I realized that as much as I love to create, be productive and get things done, I can be most creative if I allow my mind a rest sometimes. I will be setting down my pens. I will put away my notebook. I will stow away the laptop. I will step away from my phone. I will set everything on autopilot.

Are you planning a staycation this year?

Here are some things to think about to create yours:

  1. Post a list in your home with fun ideas of activities to do.
  2. Plan out simple, easy meals so that you can take a break from cooking.
  3. Plan special drinks to create.
  4. Get some books and magazines that are new for you to enjoy.
  5. Think about ways to re-create hotel experiences.
