How to Let Go of All or Nothing Thinking This Holiday Season
All you need is a slight shift in mindset and you are golden!

The holidays are officially here.
As soon as winter starts, we all want to get cozy in warm and soft blankets with some hot chocolate and watch holiday movies. I certainly enjoy doing it.
Even if you are regularly doing workouts during summer and able to achieve your goals, winters are the time when we let our motivation slip. Days are shorter and it’s getting colder every day.
“Whether you choose to move on from your struggles and enjoy life or waddle in your misery, life will continue.”― Germany Kent
Instead of procrastination just let’s approach this holiday season with a different mindset.
Current Mindset:
- I don’t have access to gym and won’t be able to do my regular workouts.
2. I will just wait until can I can do them exactly as written
Try this:
Getting in some movement is better than nothing at all. I can do body weight exercises or dumbbells’ workout at home or go for a walk.
I will feel better if I do something.
Current Mindset:
I had the best of intentions not to overeat this time, and I still end up doing the same. I might as well live it up and try again next year.
Try this:
I am still new at this, so I can’t expect perfection overnight. But I can learn from my mistakes and improve at the next opportunity. Eventually it will get better.
Current Mindset:
These holiday foods are hard to track. It’s not even worth trying to estimate because there is no way I will get it right. Screw it!
Try this:
I am doing my best to guess. It will at least get me in the ballpark and that is better than digging my head in the sand.
Current Mindset:
There are so many parties and social gatherings that there is no way I will be able to stay on track with my eating habits and fitness.
Try this:
Not every occasion is a special occasion, I will choose the one that is worth indulging in and focus more on the company of others rather than unhealthy food.
Current mindset:
I am worried there won’t be any healthy options available where I am going. I should just skip out on it all together because I don’t trust myself to make good choices.
Try this:
I will bring my own healthy dish to share and sample some of the other food that looks good so I don’t feel I am missing out.
Lastly,
If you are feeling anxious about how to handle the social situations you will be part of throughout the rest of the year, remember it doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
You can enjoy yourself without overdoing it and still wake up feeling good the next day and feel like you have maintained some momentum.
You will still make some progress, or at least maintain it by navigating the middle ground and learning to live in the gray area. But even if you don’t end up sticking to your intentions, you are always only one right choice away from being back in the game.
You don’t have to wait until January to try again.
The holidays are a wonderful opportunity to be present and enjoy yourself, not a time to feel anxious and overwhelmed.
Use these mind set shits to help you prevent the all or nothing thinking that can spiral out of control, feeling defeated, and missing out on the true meaning of the season.
What are you most looking forward to this time of the year, share in the comments.
