How to Keep Your Joy Alive Here and Now
Dancing In The Street

“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.” ― Rumi
Just the other day, as I was driving back from getting a coffee at a local place, I saw something that changed me. A person on the corner of a street changed my outlook.
On my 100-day journey exploring routines, habits, and creativity, seeing this man on the corner changed my inner being.
I got to see him for a few short moments as I waited at the stoplight. He had earbuds in, and he was dancing to music. He was in the present moment.
The way he moved his arms and swayed his body as he leaned into the music captured my soul. Unknowingly, he became my teacher that day.
I love how fully enraptured he was in that song. I could not hear it, but I could feel the energy of it. The way he moved along with the beat was mesmerizing.
It caused me to think for a while about how we all live our moments. Do we allow ourselves to be in the moment, or are we always rushing to the next thing?
This man dancing on the street taught me to be more aware of how I live in every moment.
From now on, I will seek more moments of pure joy, just in being. I can be with some music, be in nature, or be with my cup of tea.
I will look for ways to be like that man on the street, caught in the beautiful moment of music, capturing the soul. That will keep my joy alive so that I can pass it on to others.
My prayer for you today is to be in the moment. Be fully enraptured by something for a little while. There is more than enough time for everything if we slow down to enjoy everything.
Day #12: How can you allow time to be with something beautiful in your life?
Here is my video on how to live more fully in the moment:
