How To Keep Going When No-one Is Rooting For You
Become your biggest fan because that’s all you need to believe in you
Focusing on results too early might not be the best idea. Let’s face it when you are focusing on your dreams it takes a lot. It takes determination, motivation, and consistency. Consistency is hard in the beginning because you have to keep going. That’s the trick right there, you have to keep going.
Your mind isn’t wired to trust the process, it has doubts and fears. It doesn’t want to see what isn’t there. Especially if you don’t have anyone validating you. Let’s be realistic here, there are people that only see their limits, they will project that onto you and now it’s up to you to be your one and only motivator.
Focus On Goals Not Outcomes
Goals are guides but they aren’t the set-in-stone map to your plans. Say you have a dream to be successful in writing, there are goals you can set to get there but nothing is set in stone. Just when you think life is perfect and things are going as planned, everything plummets. Pick up and start again. Remind yourself why you wanted this dream.
It’s Better To Fail Than To Wonder
When I was 18 years old I contemplated suicide. I told myself every so often that if I didn’t give up in life, anything after that was better than being dead. It didn’t matter if I made nothing of myself. It didn’t matter if I failed at everything because nothing else mattered except that I kept going. I followed through with my promise and still tell myself that I don’t stop moving until I can’t move anymore.
Now picture that you were already dead, nothing else mattered. No one’s opinions, society’s expectations, anything. What is it that you would have tried because nothing else mattered?
Just Because You Feel Like Giving Up Doesn’t Mean You Should
Safety is what’s pulling you back isn’t it, you don’t want to explain to people why you aren’t where you “should” be in your career. You can’t see if you’re even headed in the right direction, you might even be on the brink of your dreams coming true. It’s okay to feel sick to your stomach and scared out of your mind. That’s okay. Feel frustrated but go back to the drawing boards and hatch up a new plan because you’ve come this far!
Your dream life holds a lot of risks and is going to bring up many fears. Wasting time, failing, judgment, it all comes at a cost. It’s not going to feel safe it’s going to feel that you’re grasping for a net to fall on to but isn’t that what makes life exciting. Put in the work, and I mean the real work not planning to work. Don’t sit and write in your notebook about how you’re going to do it, do it. No one is going to hand you what you want on a silver platter, you have to get your hands dirty.
