Readability and UX lead to curiosity.
Great readability always contributes to increased user experience, which is among the top SEO ranking factors in search engines. But with readability and user experience, you also have the opportunity of maintaining curiosity.
Always remember that a curious reader is most likely to be a responsive reader. Meaning the increase in comments, claps, likes, shares, etc. This, in turn, plays a role in ranking with search engine algorithms, because “busy” content enjoys preference.
Write in such a way that your reader wants to keep reading because they want to know what happens next. They are curious about the next step. From a marketing point of view.
Never give away “everything you got” under the first couple of subheadings. But rather maintain curiosity by breaking down your content into tiny “chewable” bits.
Your table of contents which must include your subheadings, (H2 Headings) should aim at doing the same with curiosity. By telling your visitor exactly what the content is about.
That way they immediately decide whether they want to read your content, or not. But when you target the right audience at the right time. Chances will be slim that they do not want to read your content.
Readability requires a curious presentation first.
But in order for your reader to reach your content, you will first need the presentation of your work to create curiosity too. So that your readability and user experience skills can go to work and keep them reading.
When it comes to presentation, there are 3 areas that play a paramount role in SEO and ranking capability. Your presentation is what your visitor sees first in any feed. And with these 3 areas, you need to be as transparent and objective as possible.
Title AKA H1 Header.
Featured Image.
First 2 To 4 Lines Of Text.
Although it will not be easy, you want to avoid English Stop Words in H1 headers, or titles. Because this too plays an important part in SEO and ranking capability.
You can View A List Of English Stop Words Here. Once you do. You will realise that words like “The” are not a good way to start any H1 header for instance.
Make your presentation create enough curiosity, so your visitor wants to know more. It is at your “point of presentation” where a scroll turns into a visitor. Readability and user experience then take care of curiosity and sales.
Then there is also strategic keyword placing and target keyword research. But that is a subject for another time, for now, we will just look at readability and user experience (UX).
Sentence and paragraph lengths with UX.
Sentence and paragraph length are also very important for readability and user experience (UX). Make your content as easy as possible to read, also increasing the font size for example.
Sentences should not exceed 20 words, although we do recommend less than that. Try to keep your paragraphs to a maximum of 2 to 4 sentences.
Paragraphs should not exceed 250 to 300 words; hence 2 to 3 sentences will be quite acceptable. What we mean by paragraphs, from a readability and SEO point of view.
Is that the content (paragraphs) that are divided under each subheading with SEO, should not exceed 250 to 300 words. Before the new subheading (H2 Header) is started.
Using LSI keywords to improve readability.
LSI keywords will improve readability, or shall we rather say it will improve understanding? Because that is what LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords do.
Because LSI keywords are keywords that are related to your target keywords. But they are no synonyms. This is where many writers confuse LSI keywords with synonyms.
For instance, let’s just use a target keyword like “Jogging”. Words related to jogging but not synonyms might include the following.
Running Shoes.
Water Bottle.
Sweater Pants.
Sweatbands.
Earphones.
All these things are relevant and related to jogging. This makes your content easier to understand by both search engines and your readers. You can easily generate LSI keywords for any target keyword or search phrase with “KeySearchPro”. An excellent SEO tool.
Implementing transition words with readability.
Transition words are words that make your writing flow. From one sentence to the next. Like Therefore, Because, And, Hence, But, Furthermore, In Addition, etc. Transition words are just another part of better readability and ultimately user experience.
You can view a Full List Of Transition Words Here. Transition words create flow and are very important with readability and user experience. Use transition words to intrigue your reader.
Using transition words to leverage curiosity, just like all the other elements we have discussed in this Medium story. All contribute to readability and user experience.
With that, increase your ranking capability in search engines. SEO is rather logical once you get the hang of it. It is not all that complicated, what it is, however, is time-consuming!
