How to Earn $100 Per Week Under the New Medium Payment Program

It’s time for the struggling writers to earn a good income too

If you’ve had trouble earning money with your Medium stories in the past, the new partner program update may be just the thing for you. New writers have always struggled on the platform, because it rewards writers who market themselves.

If you don’t have a following, it’s hard to gain traction.

So, how’s a new writer supposed to earn eyeballs without going insane? Especially when the new algorithm only rewards read time. If we don’t get our stories read, we don’t get paid.

Maybe $100 a week doesn’t sound like much, but $500 will. And that’s where you’re heading if you work to grow your readership. Maybe even more. There are writers earning six-figures a year from the partner program (although I am not one of them, I’m getting there).

I have a series of steps I use to ensure I keep earning money every month.

You can use them to. No matter if you started writing last week or last year, these little tips will help you earn more off your Medium stories.

Here’s a small toolbox you can use to earn your first $100 a week on Medium

  1. Choose who you serve and stick with them — The new Medium partner plan rewards writers who choose a particular niche. They want readers to keep reading. If you have a lot of content in one area, you’ll earn accumulated read time as your niche readers digs deeper into your content.
  2. Publish on publications as much as you can — Medium is publication heavy and appears to give published stories more weight. They’ve even got a bunch of paid, side deals with big publications, so if you can get your story published on one of these, you’ll get more eyes than you would alone.
  3. Grow your followers as fast as you can — You need an audience to earn money on Medium. Just publishing your story on a big publication won’t do it alone, because not everyone who follows the publication will see the story. You’ve got to bring food to the potluck. Interact with readers on other pages. Comment on stories. Like and share. Medium rewards those who take action.
  4. Publish 2–3 times per day — You need the eyeballs. You’ll have to put in the work. Starting to earn money on Medium is like driving uphill on an icy road. Some days, no matter how hard you smash the gas, the car keeps sliding down the hill. The more you publish (in the beginning) the more you’ll have a chance to earn a reader. Yep, this is hard work. Earning on Medium is no joke.
  5. Build your email list before you need it — Medium can change the rules any time, including elimination the payment plan altogether. Don’t get caught with your pants off. Build an email list, starting today. Before you’ve got something to sell. Before you need your tribe’s help. If you wait too long, it’ll be too late.

It’s time to grow your reader’s tribe

Not only should you build a large following in Medium, you’ve also go to build a big tribe you own. A list of folks you control no matter what the rules are on the Medium platform.

You don’t want to lose all your income overnight, even if it’s just $100.

When you build an email list, you also build an insurance policy… and a more-automated way of earning an income. Couple email with Medium and you’ve got yourself a great platform that will feed you well into the future.

If you want to grow your email list while you grow your Medium following, I’ve created a free email masterclass for you. Tap the link below and you’ll get the first lesson today.
