Choose Four Letters of The Alphabet

A simple creative writing exercise that is fun is to pick four letters of the alphabet. Create your title from using a word that begins with that letter.

The letters can be in any order. The order can be changed. The idea is to start, so don’t overthink.

You can make this a fantasy or a real story of facts.

For example, there is real rock candy. You could give a short tutorial about how to make rock candy from real life or a fantasy version. You can also buy rock candy. Often used for Birthdays, Weddings, Receptions, Bridal and Baby Shower favors.

You can create rock candy in as few as five minutes in the microwave or take as long as 5–7 days if you are doing a science experiment. It depends on what you are creating and how quickly you need the finished candy.

This candy forms by allowing a supersaturated solution of sugar and water to crystallize onto a surface suitable for crystal growth and formation, such as a string, stick, or plain granulated sugar. Heating the water before adding the sugar allows more sugar to dissolve, thus producing larger crystals — a 2:1 ratio of sugar to liquid.

When you make rock candy, you can see the shape of sugar crystals on a giant scale. The key is giving them lots of time (about 5–7 days) to grow. As the water evaporates, sugar crystals form on the string or stick, and the shapes that they form reflect the shape of individual sugar crystals.

Add food coloring and a couple of drops of flavoring to your crystal solution. Cherry, lemon, lime, orange, mint, and cinnamon all work well. Another option is to dissolve Kool-aid™ or another drink mix in the crystal growing solution to (intensely) flavor your rock candy.
