Choose the Writing You Enjoy-Topics are Everywhere
How to discover your favorite types of writing
Topics to write about are everywhere. All you have to do is look around and decide. If that seems too much for you, then look for issues in an area that you enjoy to narrow down the choices.
Opinions are your specific take on a topic. They add how you feel to conversations in writing, just like you do when you add your idea to an interview or ask you what you think. There are lots of voice recognition software (s) available if typing or writing is a problem for you to do. This one is my favorites, and I use the audio for a podcast. So writing and an audio file.
Suppose you need help deciding what type of writing you want to do. In that case, you can get help from my Creative Writing Strategies: Writing Exercises book that gives you 57 samples exercises in many different types of writing. By doing the exercises, you can better understand what kind of writing you want to do so you can get started. Online reading or workbook (recommended) allows you to keep all of the writing together and rank each type as you go.

Writing is like going to a buffet of food. You like some of the items and others, not so much. You choose the ones that you enjoy.
So come on over to the writing buffet and sample the different types or genres (john rahs) and see what suits you. You might be surprised at the examples that appeal to you.
The hardest part of writing a book is to zero in on the genre (areas of writing) and your topic. For example, suppose you want to write about the genre of adventure. In that case, you will need to drill down to what kind of adventure, which area or way the experience takes place, and more details.
You may already know you want to write about having an adventure in or about _____ and that is a good thing. Any way you can narrow the topic is better for you to stay on target with your writing.
But you won’t know unless you get started.
If you are in a hurry to get started with your writing you can get the exercises all together. You can do them in the book and mark the ones you like the best to help you more quickly get going on that project you already know is what you want to write in. Either way, Begin!
You can make up a story about anything or report the facts about what you see just by looking around you and beginning to make your observations on paper.
