Your ego, your precious ego, is built to keep you safe. It is responsible for your survival and desires to be in control of your life.

If you’re not aware of your ego’s thoughts, you can easily fall into suffering, feeling too attached to people and things in your life, and entertain limiting thoughts in your day-to-day experiences.

Pay Attention to What You’re Paying Attention To

Your ego has stories of your past and even your future. The past comes from experiences; the future mostly comes from worries and “what-ifs”.

Your ego will always think the worst thing that can happen to prepare you for any unsafe outcomes.

In order for us to manifest our desires, we must learn to speak with our ego in a manner that is compassionate and understanding, yet we must take the leading role in our life.

When your ego leads you, you’ll end up suffering.

The Hard Way to Deal with Your Ego:

You could simply tell it to “shut up” and push your ego aside.

However, this method isn’t going to help the ego be quiet for too long or not at all.

Handle your ego with love and understanding while continuously work on the fear, uncertainty, and “what-ifs” your ego brings to the surface.

Let yourself fly and get out of the way, and you’ll experience the most profound life you couldn’t even imagine before.

How to Tame Your Ego (a bit easier way)

We surrender.

That’s the most challenging and painful experience in some cases of our self-development.

How could we trust the unknown? How could we embrace our future without the pressures of our past? How could we let go of our old stories that are so ingrained in our minds?

We need to surrender our control and let our energies guide us toward the life we desire to live.

Let our intuition lead our next best step and follow the flow of our life.

You simply must learn to recognize what ideas come from your ego and what comes from your true self.

Your soul isn’t going to chase money, fame, a big house, or a new car.

Your soul leads you with love, appreciation, and guides you to your bigger mission.

Don’t underestimate the power of your soul mission and become aware that money is simply a side effect of your awesomeness!

6 Steps You Can Implement Right Away:

1. Continuous Self-Reflection:

I do this throughout my day as my ego thoughts come up, but when I started in 2017, I set aside about 5–10 minutes every night to learn about myself.

What were the emotions/thoughts/habits that didn’t serve you this day, and how will you deal with them next time?

2. Journal:

This is my favorite; I personally fill a 300-page notebook in less than a month. Of course, that’s just me — I absolutely love journaling.

You can start by letting off some steam, listing out what you love about your life, or what you’re grateful for as you write in your journal weekly or daily, as you prefer.

Write about anything you want to release from your mind.

Clearing your mind this way is super powerful when it comes to dealing with your ego.

Purge your thoughts on paper. It’s like magic. You may even find some gems there while you’re at it.

3. Intentions For The Day:

When you begin your day by setting your intention on how you’re going to feel each day, you’re less likely to fall for your ego’s chatter.

Not just what you’re going to do, but how you are going to feel while doing it.

Anything less than that feeling you intent to feel will prompt you to stop and analyze the situation you’re in.

What caused you feel upset in X situation right now? Try not to redirect this to anyone, simply focus on your feelings…

4. Self-Love and Self-Compassion:

Your ego is extremely strong-minded and it’ll want to fight for its limitations at all costs.

Even if you’re aware and you’re mostly catching those daily thoughts that are trying to shift you off your path, your ego will try something new.

It’ll sneak into your mind a few weeks after you change a habit and gently nudge you to just “take this little detour,” which isn’t that noticeable at first.

Yet, if you give in, within a day or so, you’ll most likely be back to your old habits.

Gentleness, self-love, and compassion for yourself in those moments are crucial for your self-development.

5. Become Mindful:

Eat, move, love, sleep, think, work, create mindfully.

Teach yourself not to react to anything; instead, create everything.

I know it isn’t easy, give yourself time, yet when you pay attention to what you’re paying attention to, your life will transform so much that you won’t even be able to recognize yourself (in a good way).

6. Release the Need to Control:

This is a biggie, and it’s a constant work, just like you’d work out your muscles in the gym.

Every day, the ego is there to test you. Every day, release control. Every day. Period.

Your ego will never leave you; the only thing we can do is release control of it and let it play in the background with gentle reminders that it isn’t running the show anymore.

When you quiet the noise of your ego, your soul leads you each day toward your destination.

All is well, even if it may not seem like it at this moment. When you set your intentions and surrender control, you’ll be taken care of. Period.
