How To Consistently Make $200 A Month On Medium (Passively)
Some strategies that could make money passively on Medium.
When I joined the Medium partner program, my only goal was to write more stories and submitting them to popular publications. I was rejected many times unless I have started my own Medium publication. As I have stated many times that Medium is quite a revolutionary platform. There are some people who want to find the best alternative for Medium. There is some powerful alternative but they don’t have as potential as Medium has.
None of my stories are ever published in popular publication nor did my stories are curated, but I am making $200 a month on Medium passively.
Even if I don’t write a single article on Medium for a month now, I will still make $200. Why I am so confident about the strategies I use to make money on Medium? because achieving these marks is just require hard work. Once I interview, Sinem Günel where I asked her, Why writers fail on Medium? She replied: “Most writers who often fail or didn’t cross the $100 mark is also didn’t publish a lot of stories on Medium. Most of the successful writers on Medium publish over 40+ stories”
You see the problem. The problem is that they didn’t publish as many stories. Medium has this feature that they will show your stories to the readers based on their reading history. Tip#1: Publish more articles:
It is as simple as it looks. Publishing more articles had numerous benefits especially on Medium. The first benefit is that algorithm will reward you. This is also called “feeding the algorithm”, the second benefit is that you will get higher chances of appearing on the “based on your reading history” section. As you put more samples in the system, the chances of getting success will be high. That’s why you should publish more articles a month.
What is the ideal number? there is no ideal number but if you publish 2 stories a day, 9 stories a week, this will do the trick for you. The earnings of all these stories will add up, also called “Compounding” and you will end up making more compared to your previous month.
With time, some of your stories will lose the charm but you could generate evergreen content and for that, you need to learn some Medium SEO.
Tip#2: Learn Medium SEO:
Medium search engine optimization is to write articles that easily getting ranked on Google and other search engines. I have over 1 Million views on stories published on Medium and most of them are from people who aren’t from Medium but looking for something else and they landed on my articles. Medium.com doesn’t pay for getting views or reads but for getting reads from Medium members and you get paid based on their reading time.

Tip#5 Write long-form Medium stories:
There are two benefits to writing long-form articles.
- Making more money from Medium partner program: Medium pays you for getting more read time from Medium members. The longer the story and the more a reader spent time (writing so that reader doesn’t get bored) will make you more money.
- The SEO benefit: So, long-form articles rank quite well in Google search compared to short-form 1000 words articles. Google doesn't recognize long-form content as a ranking factor but there are some studies that show that “Long-form 2500+ words articles getting ranked higher than normal 1000–1200 words articles” but remember that some writers write 12,000 words article and this is a huge red flag.
You should definitely create your own publication if you think you could write stories that could generate followers and want to write on Medium keeping a long-term goal.
Use This Strategy:
You could use this strategy to generate a good passive income stream through writing on Medium.
- Step#1: Find at least 20 keywords: This is a difficult process. But, you have to find some keywords that have high search volume. If there are already two Medium stories for that keyword then leave it as it might take more time than you could be expected.
- Step#2: Write at least 20 stories: Write 20 stories in a month targeting those keywords. This may be hard but if you love to write about a topic, it might be very easy.
- Step#3: Do this for over 5 months: Yes, in 5 months, if you have over 100 stories and all of them are directed toward search traffic. You will definitely make a good passive income that will fund your coffee cost of a month.
Now, if you are generating $100 or $200 a month passively. You can take a break but you have to put more content on Medium in order to increase your earnings. You might reach a Million views a month but you have to write, write, and write and publish more content on Medium.
