Summary

Leila Hormozi's journey from multiple incarcerations to achieving a net worth of over $100 million by age 29, as detailed in her video on brainwashing oneself for success, exemplifies the transformative power of self-reprogramming and personal accountability.

Abstract

Leila Hormozi, CEO of Acquisition.com alongside her husband, has amassed a significant fortune through strategic self-transformation. Her approach to success involves embracing negative thoughts as motivators, rejecting a victim mentality, and actively reshaping one's self-image. Hormozi emphasizes the importance of asking oneself productive questions, building frustration tolerance, and challenging one's thoughts and emotions to break the cycle of negative behavior. Her methodology is encapsulated in three key techniques: posing terrifying future-oriented questions, accepting and leveraging frustrations through realistic affirmations, and disproving limiting thoughts and emotions. The underlying message is that success requires a fundamental shift in identity, achieved through consistent mental retraining.

Opinions

  • Negative thoughts and feelings should not be labeled as wrong but rather accepted and used constructively to fuel one's ambitions.
  • Adopting a victim mentality is detrimental to personal growth; individuals must recognize their role in creating their reality and take responsibility for it.
  • Productive self-inquiry is crucial for personal development, as it can lead to a profound understanding of the consequences of inaction and the necessity for change.
  • Building frustration tolerance is a valuable skill for managing negative emotions and maintaining focus on long-term goals.
  • The use of realistic affirmations can reinforce one's commitment to self-improvement, even in the face of discomfort or adversity.
  • Thoughts and emotions are not absolute truths or directives; individuals have the power to question and overcome them to align with their desired identity.
  • Achieving success necessitates a genuine transformation of one's self-concept, which can be accomplished through dedicated mental conditioning and visualization.

How Leila Hormozi Went from Being Jailed 6 Times to a $100M Success Story — and How You Can Too

How to brainwash yourself to success

Leila Hormozi is the CEO of Acquisition.com (along with her husband Alex) and achieved over $100 Million in net worth by the time she was 29.

When I saw the title of her YouTube video (How to Brainwash Yourself to Success), it made me immediately stop and check it out.

Because I know in order to succeed at anything, you need to become the person that already has what you want. One way to do this is to brainwash yourself into it.

Here are the main takeaways from this video.

Use negative feelings to your advantage

There’s nothing wrong with thinking badly or having negative thoughts. It’s part of the human experience. The problem is labeling them as something wrong.

Instead, accept them and use them as fuel to get what you want.

Don’t have a victim mentality

Leila explained that she drank too much and did drugs and when she was arrested for the sixth time, her dad told her that she was going to end up killing herself.

When she looked in the mirror, she saw someone she hated and saw herself as a victim. That night, she went home and committed herself to creating a better life.

“I decided to dedicate myself to becoming the version of myself that I always wanted to be, the version of myself that I envisioned when I was a little girl.”

She knew she wasn’t a victim because she created the reality she was living.

Then, she began to retrain her brain. Here are the 3 techniques she uses.

3 ways to brainwash yourself to success

  1. Instead of asking unproductive questions like, “Why am I so fat? Why do I suck at this?” ask yourself productive questions like, “If I continue to do this and I don’t change, what happens 5 years from now?” The answer should terrify you into realizing there’s no option other than change.
  2. Build frustration tolerance by leaning into your feelings. Accept your frustrations. Instead of trying to rid yourself of negative emotions, lean into them. The more you do this, the more they dissipate. Create a realistic affirmation for yourself. Leila’s was “I may feel anxious, hungry, and alone, but I can become the person I want to be if I work hard enough with enough consistency.”
  3. Prove your brain wrong. Thoughts are not facts and emotions are not commands. Break the link between feeling and behaving. One question Lelia asks herself when she has a strong emotion or thought is “What if I didn’t believe this thought?” Build a case as to why your thoughts are not true.

You must become a different person

Because this is so important, I’m going to say it again. In order to change, you must actually become the person you want to be. To do that, you have to be able to change your thoughts about yourself.

You have the ability to be successful if you can retrain your brain. Use these techniques, visualize the new version of yourself, and be consistent.

You will completely (and literally) change your world.
