How to be Happy Everyday
It’s all about understanding the basics of life and doing it daily

In my free time or while cooking or doing some household chores I love to listen to Ted Talks.
Recently, I was listening to the TedTalk: How to Be Happy Every Day: It Will Change the World | Jacqueline Way | TEDxStanleyPark. It’s the video about how she started a small practice at her home and later on it made ripple effects all over the world.
It’s basically about giving to others, being kind, and showing humility which makes us happy every day.
She insisted just like we brush our teeth daily, we should give back to the world something every single day to make ourselves happy.
There is a Chinese saying that goes: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” For centuries, the greatest thinkers have suggested the same thing: Happiness is found in helping others. — Source Internet
There is beauty in giving, we all have experiences that boost in our soul when we give without any intention of receiving back.
In this TedTalk she spoke about her idea of giving back 365 days, yes, every single day. Her website is www.365give.ca. I adore her idea about giving, it’s about starting small and doing it continuously.
Here, I am sharing some of the ideas that you could do to make someone happy every single day:
- Writing positive reviews: It may be for articles, vlogs, small business owners, or anyone that you resonate with, just writing positive comments and feedback for them means a lot to them.
- Listening: Sometimes we all just need someone to listen to us, even if they don’t have answers to our questions that’s perfectly okay. Just show that you care about their feelings.
- Helping with chores: It may be helping your family members or your neighbor with something, little helping hand goes a long way.
- Help in secret: Just help someone with something they need in secret, don’t let them know it was you. Try it, it feels good.
- Sending gifts without any occasion: You don’t need occasion to send gifts. Just randomly any day shower someone with a beautiful gift, it may be your loved ones, strangers, friends, kids, colleagues, or anyone.
- Lend a book: If you are enjoying the book you read, just give it to someone who will enjoy it too.
- Give a handwritten note: In a world full of online messages, send someone a handwritten note, postcard, etc, it feels special.
- Donate blood: If it's possible and you have good health, donate blood at a blood donation camp.
- Support small businesses: Show some love to those small businesses who just have started, share their post, buy from their store, spread their work in your community, and make a ripple effect so that it can spread all over the world.
- Just Smile: Smile when you see someone, it can be anyone, greet whoever you meet today with a smile, even if that person is you, standing in front of the mirror.
- Share your knowledge: We all have some unique talent. I believe we all can learn something from each other. So, share your skill with someone, remember sharing always increases your knowledge.
- Give compliments: If you like someone's attire, their makeup, their way of dressing, or anything, just say it, it will make them happy and you can see their cute smile.
- Share your recipe: I know you make something very delicious and people love your food. So, share that recipe so that they can make it too.
- Be Patient: I know it is hard but at times just have patience.
- Give up your seat: If you are traveling in public transport and you see someone in need of that seat who is standing just offer them a seat.
- Pay for someone's coffee, food, etc: It may be through the driveway or in the store, just pay for a person who is behind you.
- Leave motivational quotes: Leave notes in public places so that someone can feel good, sometimes that single quote can change a lot in their day. I have experienced it myself, sometimes you need that quote and it just pops up at the right time in front of you.
- Share your time: Sometimes we all just need the presence of someone so be there for someone in need.
- Charge money to give up bad habits: I do this with my family members, so if I want to quit their bad habits. I start charging money to them and later on, you can give that money to someone in need.
- Share your playlist: If you have an amazing playlist of movies, music, podcasts, or TedTalk, just share it with someone so that others can enjoy and learn from it too.
- Donate Unused items: We all have tons of things in our house we don’t use, so take time to clean them up and give them to someone in need.
- Hold the elevator, door, etc for the next person: It’s a simple act but it’s worth doing.
- Give a hug: Physical touch makes us feel good, it has that warmth and support. So, just give that hug to friends, family, kids, and anyone who needs it.
- Donate: It can be money, items, anything that you can. It can be even just worth $1, but it needs to come out of heart and love.
- Check-in with someone: Call, text, send letters, or anything to just check in with someone, it makes them feel good that they are being remembered.
- Give it free: It may be your course, book, or something that people can love and enhance their skill just give it away for free.
- Volunteer: There are so many programs happening nearby, just go and volunteer for them.
- Spend time with kids and elderly: There is a special thing about spending time with kids and elderly. Can’t describe it in words but it just feels peaceful to listen to them.
- Make someone feel special: It may be your partner, parents, friends, stranger anyone, just do something for them that they adore.
- Offer your partner a comforting touch: Simply place their towel in the dryer before they bathe, so when they finish and wrap themselves in it, they’ll feel an extra touch of warmth and care.
- Give up buying luxury for a month: Share money from not buying that item to support some cause.
- Clean up your surroundings: Just pick up the litter lying in your surroundings.
- Plant a tree: Just do it for the environment and for your happiness.
- Offer Tech Support to the Elderly: Volunteer to help older individuals navigate technology. Teach them to use smartphones, computers, or social media to stay connected with their loved ones.
- Support goals: We all have goals to achieve and at times we need someone to support and motivate us to keep going. So, be that supporter for someone.
- Visit or call regularly: It may be your parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, or anyone who lives far away from you, visit them often and call them.
- Express Gratitude: Just show kindness to your loved ones for whatever they are doing with cute gestures.
- Spread Joy: Share a joke, meme, or funny story with someone to bring a smile to their face.
- Share a Meal: Cook an extra portion of food and share it with a neighbor, friend, or someone in need.
- Give Constructive Feedback: Offer constructive feedback in a supportive and helpful manner to aid someone’s growth. Let them know what they can improve by explaining positively.
- Say ‘I Love You’: Express love and affection to your loved ones often, and make them feel valued.
- Suggest Solutions: When someone shares a problem, offer potential solutions or resources that could help them.
- Be Patient in Traffic: Practice patience and politeness while driving, let others merge, and pass without frustration.
- Learn a Greeting in Another Language: If you are meeting someone who speaks some other language just learn their native language, it will make them feel good.
- Start a Conversation: Strike up a conversation with someone you see often but haven’t spoken to before, showing interest in their day or interests.
There are immense ways to give back to society and remember it all starts with one.
Above I just shared a few ways to make ourselves happy in the process of giving, if you start doing it daily, naturally new ideas will attract based on your surroundings, and you will automatically find ways to help others.
“Giving back is as good for you as it is for those you are helping, because giving gives you purpose. When you have a purpose-driven life, you’re a happier person .”— Goldie Hawn
