How Sacred Geometry Is Coming Back in Technology for a Reason

Healing the past, creating the future

I’ve been fascinated by geometry for ages. It’s my arty soul, I guess. I love the fact that geometry gives beauty. Like the golden ratio for instance.

Painters know about it. Photographers know about it. And cameras nowadays have grids to compose your picture easily according to its magic rules to create ultimate beauty.

According to Stephen Skinner, the study of sacred geometry has its roots in the study of nature, and her mathematical principles. Many forms and patterns observed in nature can be related to geometry.

For example, the chambered nautilus grows at a constant rate. Its shell forms a logarithmic spiral to make sure that growth can happen without changing shape.

Also, honeybees construct hexagonal cells to hold their honey. These and other correspondences are sometimes interpreted in terms of sacred geometry and considered to be further proof of the natural significance of geometric forms.

And here on Medium, many poets are now posting their Fibonacci poetry, inspired by nature’s numbers. With swell results, like you can see in the poems of Amy Marley and Tej.

Recently, I wrote about the philosophy behind it. Deep Ecology. Creating a regenerative future full of products and people who can heal themselves when broken during life’s journey. That’s what regeneration means. And it’s built on solid science.

Heal the Broken Past

There are just two things to do to get there. Heal the broken past. And design the regenerative future together. I write about it all the time. Clear transition paths for all human sectors that I encounter in my work as a regenerative strategist for innovation, governments, and businesses.

And lately, I see that more and more companies and individual people are re-discovering (sacred) geometry as a healing factor for the past. And a design factor for future low-tech and high-tech.

Practical examples?

I’m part of a project redesigning the regenerative future for textiles and fashion. And the beautiful brand Royal Gypsy is on the road towards the regenerative future with us. Two aspects fascinate me about this brand.

• Royal Gypsy combines several functions so women won’t need many items in their wardrobes. The gypsies will be designing for men soon too, by the way. Basic needs to feel beautiful and stand tall, feel royal, without the need to impress
• The healing qualities of sacred geometry. Royal Gypsy started with floral patterns. But when they shifted towards sacred geometry the customers reported huge leaps in personal transition. Can a dress with sacred geometry change our awareness?

One other example I write about more often is Blue Earth Innovations. I’ve just seen it with my own eyes. And a professional lab was present, doing the measurements and making reports about their regenerative farmer customers.

Ostrich eggs filled with quantum-treated water buried into very degraded soil in a sacred geometry pattern managed to regenerate 9 ha of soil in just one year. Wow. That’s sacred geometry in action to change the world.

Can food, grown by regenerative farmers with quantum-treated water, enhance wide-spread awareness of human beings? Can rivers and lakes healed with Wise Use’s micro-organisms enhance our awareness overall?

Interesting perspective…

Polymath Design of the Future

Designing the future will be more about patterns and flows than about fixed, static technologies. We already know a lot about fractals and combinatorial innovation, but the real moonshot jumps and quantum leaps will come when we will really start to innovate and design with patterns and flows.

If we zoom out high enough we see that the linear thinking of the industrial revolution had its universal reasons.

The universe has so much longer timespans and so much higher vision that we often don’t see the reasons from our ant-like perspective. We need to become eagles and fly up high to see more clearly.

So, look at it like this.

Everything goes in cycles. In the past, there were many polymaths who combined art and sciences. Leonardo da Vinci for instance. And Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Then the industrial revolution came and we focused. We trained our minds to very high levels. We managed with linear technology, Cartesian circles, and lines, to build our immaterial connection world, the internet.

And now, the polymaths return to our world and they start to get some recognition for their great generalist value. We need connectors of dots now. People who can look across the borders of their own shadow and connect to others who know a lot as well. Polymaths on this platform perhaps? Like Genius Turner? Zat Rana? Erin 'Folletto' Casali? Dr Mehmet Yildiz? Nicholas Scalice? Polymath? Jesus Najera?

Of course, I have a lot of polymaths around me in the regenerative world. We connect dots all day. Scientists, business leaders, well, just influential changemakers within The Great Transition.

Like a murmuration, we flock together and our changemaker’s swarm grows and grows and grows.

Yes, we’re in The Great Transition now and the wave of change has two phases. The first phase was the ethical phase and we philosophized a lot about how we have to get our hearts (love) and guts (intuition) into the equation.

The second phase of the Great Transition has just started. I couldn’t fathom that it would be a virus that would make us see. But it is. So, welcome to the existential phase of the Great Transition. It’s really time to act now. Humanity will be drowning or burning if we don’t.

Superformula and Blockchain

Okay, I’m getting off track again. What about geometry? Well, at this moment I have weekly talks with renowned scientist Johan Gielis. He is the one from the Superformula, remember? The one formula for all shapes in nature.

And the more I talk to him, the more I start to see how geometry has been the basis of the Cartesian past and will be the basis of a regenerative future.

In a fixed state, geometry will make everything sacred again. Time to start building with sacred geometry again. Or more ambitious: design all of our products with sacred patterns.

By the way, Johan doesn’t agree with me on this. Why would one pattern be better than another? Squares and circles are the same… Yes, why? Maybe old patterns have held the universal energy longer? I don’t know (yet). But my aim is to find out…

In a flowing state, we will design with the superformula. And stop hoarding. Stop trying to control. Make everything flexible. No more technological lock-ins by greedy business models either. Synergy will ensure the sum of the total will be more than the separate parts. 1+1=3.

No magic, my friends, pure science is at play here. We just have to add more wisdom. And experiment with reality…

This will be the transition in just a few words: until now, we have built our technology with ones and zeros. Back and white. Poles. And what do we get: polarization in all of our technologies. As if there was no grey at all. Let alone color.

The superformula allows us to make all shapes with one equation. Imagine what that means for data transmission? We just have to send one dot instead of 70.000 triangles over the net. Imagine what energy savings we can achieve.

Same with blockchain. The big problem is blockchain’s huge energy consumption. Bitcoin e.g. consumes as much energy as my whole country, the Netherlands, and more energy than Argentina, according to BBC articles. But what if we redesign blockchain and bitcoin with the Superformula?

My talks with Johan aren’t finished yet, so I’ll leave the full impact of the Superformula for later. But to all polymaths, I want to say… IMAGINE… and help us write our way towards the future of technology.
