How News Items Inspires my Creativity
Being creative is what I have whole life: playing the violin, drawing (no, I’m not that good), writing little stories I never thought they were good (writing a book is still on my to-do list), and many more creative activities I do.
Recently, last year to be precise, I discovered painting. I am in a learning process, but I love to do it.
With the death of George Floyd, I am more aware of my own human being. I am thinking about what racism is and what I can do. This news came in like a bomb. I was in shock. How on earth could someone do this? At the same time, I had to write down my feelings. So, I did.
When I play the violin, I try to play with how my feelings are. Music is just emotional. And I am emotional, so that is a very good combination. When I play the violin, I will be creative to look at what I can play and how I can improve to be a better violinist.
How can news items be my inspirational creativity outlet?
Reading news is what I have done my whole life when my father subscribed to a good national newspaper, with very informative news and opinions. I read the newspaper every day and every Saturday, there was a newsmagazine and special editions of the newspaper. It was very thick and I liked it very much.
Every Sunday, it was Sunday morning TV morning. First, we watched a Dutch opinion and news program, then a lovely musical program, followed by the hourly news program. When there were sports, we watched speedskating or The Tour de France.
News is about any topic that happens in the world, local and regional. And when you are creative, like me; writing, playing the violin and painting, you become aware where you can write and paint about, but also how you can use your emotions in playing music.
When I see the news, I try to find an angle about how I can think about this topic and write about it here on Medium, in general, or Essays I never have published?
Listen carefully to what had happened
Listen carefully to what the anchor of the news program told the audience. What was her or his voice sounds like? What is the topic of the news item? Did you understand what was going on?
See the videos that have been cast. What happened? Did it value the news item? In what way?
What are the facts?
Are these facts correct? Is it a gossip news site, program, or newspaper and newsmagazine? Think twice about what they are saying and who they interview about these topics. Did the interviewed person say something valuable for the audience?
Which opiniators were speaking?
Look the speakers up and read more about them, and listen to what they have said already about the topic. It is important to know what they have said earlier. Is it the same as they told on the news item you’re watching or listening to?
