This was the first article I published, on the topic of faceless YouTube. I thought this one was the real hit.
It did pretty good but, not viral…

I was happy with the performance, don’t get me wrong. But, I thought it was pop more than it did.
Like this story did…
Now, this one, on how much YouTube paid me for my 68-million-viewed video. This was a standout story.

The proof:
I didn’t get paid $9,000 in one month, it was spread out over several months and now, I still earn passive income from it, though much different from earlier days (of course).
This month I’ve earned about $8 from it so far.
How did it go viral?
I think these things contributed to the success…
- It was about a trending topic
- It talked about money
- There was a number in the headline
- It was a 4-minute read
When I wrote the story, I remember thinking that it was taking me a while to put it all together. That’s because I was getting screenshots from my YouTube dashboard and really taking my time putting my thoughts together.
I wish it was a little longer, to be honest, but 4 minutes seemed to be a good sweet spot. Not too long, not too short.
Looking at the story and performance, I’m proud.
It’s nearly 100% highlighted!
I got some good feedback from readers and tons of engagement.
I tried my best to respond to all the comments. I think that helped too. Engagement can help your account, as a Medium writer, I’ve found.
The amount I earned I’m very satisfied with but, how much you make from the Medium Partner Program is based on member reading time.
I’ve heard from other writers on this platform that have earned similar amounts or more, for less views, just because their member reading time was so good.
Views are gold. Member reading time is platinum (so corny, haha).
