How Much I’ve Earned On Medium

Or… writing brings out my happy

I thought it was about time I wrote about my Medium experience so far.

I usually don’t like these types of story. Bragging. Look what I’ve done.

However, I know there are many out there just starting and want to see others views on how Medium works.

Having been here since November ’21 and reaching the important 100 followers, I started to realise that anything is possible.

When I received my first ‘pay check’ I was amazed. It could actually happen.

So, I buckled down and got to it.

December and January weren’t bad — at least as far as I was concerned.

21 stories in January: $10.70

13 stories in February: $28.85

I wrote a story in February about why I thought being chosen for distribution was not the answer.

This was because a story I wrote appeared to drop in performance once it was distributed! An unhappy coincidence?

The numbers of external views rose, and as we all know, this is not good for income. We need Medium readers to read, IF we want to earn.

Having written that, things started to turn around, and the story I was worried about has turned out to be my best performing story.

This one:

To date, this has earned me almost $30!

Sure, it’s not going to change my life, but I realised I need to be more patient.

The pattern continued in March, even though I only published 4 stories that month.

Life kinda got in the way! This also explains the lack of stories in April too, and why this is the first for May!

However, the beauty of Medium is the passive income nature of the beast, and that stories will always offer the ability to earn, long after they’ve been published.

To the end of April, I have earned $92.

I’m happy. Writing on Medium, for me, isn’t a full time job. It’s not supposed to be my main income, but it sure is great to have a small monthly payment made because you, yes you, have taken the time to read my stories.

There will be more.

In the meantime. Thank you.
