How Many Things Can You Break In One Day?
I got a new personal record!
Normally, I am a very careful and mindful person. Until I am not.
As a child, I was prone to accidents when I was getting lost in daydreaming, or when I was too stressed. Sometimes I would intentionally get lost in daydreaming, because of the stress.
As an adult, I have learned to manage my stress levels quite well and I am rather good at staying mindful for most of the day. There are days though that things don’t go as planned. Today was one of those days.
In the morning, I broke one big salad bowl while washing it. My reaction time* was so slow, that I focused more on the mesmerizing sound and sight of the glass breaking, rather than protecting myself.
As I was sweeping the floor to collect all the small pieces of glass that might have fallen there, I knocked over a small jar. By that time, I realized that I’m probably too stressed and not paying enough attention to my surroundings.
I made myself some tea and attempted to locate the source of my stress. But the clumsiness hadn’t gone away yet.
After washing the mug, somehow I knocked over the cutlery drying basket. I still don’t know how that happened. All the spoons, forks, and knives fell in the sink. The sink was clean, but I felt compelled to wash everything again — because, why not.
A few hours later, while changing one of my piercings, somehow I knocked over the toothbrush holder. Luckily it’s wooden so it didn’t break! But, I lost my earring which is very small, so it took me a good while to find it on the bathroom floor. And, while getting up, I hit my head on the base of the bathroom sink.
Fortunately, nothing else broke today. Even though, there are 2 hours remaining until the day is officially over, so who knows what else might happen!
Here’s the aftermath of today’s clumsiness: - 1 broken glass salad bowl - 1 broken small jar - 2 small cuts on my right arm - 1 small bruise on my hand - headache from bumping my head
On the positive side: - extra clean cutlery - extra disinfected earring - super clean kitchen floor

Today, Blogs by J wrote about being lost in her own world. And, while I enjoy it, probably today I overdid it!
