How Living your Core Desired Feelings Explodes into the Best Life Lived!

Setting Core Desired Feelings will create a level of achievement, that goals never can.

Goals, like New Year’s resolutions, fail to motivate much further than setting them and spending all that time kicking your ass for not achieving them.

Whether it is a short-term goal that is too easily obtained or a long-term goal that is out of reach, goals lack the energy and excitement to engage your soul.

How do you find your deeper existence?

The answer is to set core desired feelings (CDF). These are instantly reinforcing, easily maintained, and a game-changer for your life.

Danielle LaPorte in her book The Desire Map defines core desired feelings.

Those are your preferred states of being. These are a desired way of feeling and being that have probably been with you for a very long time.

CDFs are lived as daily actions you take in the world.

They are an outlook in life that can carry you throughout your moments and change how you live.

A person that has calmness as a CDF carries this throughout their day. Stuck in traffic, they can remind themselves that calm is their CDF, a tense moment at work does not stir emotions as they are calm.

A person who wants to lose weight and sets goals and targets and calories are only testing their willpower until a stronger emotion or desire comes along. The goal may be achieved in the short term, but rarely in the long term.

With health as a CDF the landscape changes. Someone who desires health will carry this in their everyday life. A few minutes at lunch, I desire health, therefore I will walk. When selecting from the menu, I desire health. The treats on the work table, health. What to do on a weekend, health.

Goals are always an external target, core desired feelings are inside you.

Finding your Core Desired Feelings?

How do you find your CDFs? Deconstructing the name gives you a start. You need to look into your core, well beneath the veneer you show to the world. Deeper still, what are your desired feelings? What do you desire beyond all descriptions; like the sound of your child’s laughter, a drink of cold water on a hot day, or the touch of a lover?

Explore these questions, feel them, rip yourself apart, and ask your soul to answer them?

  • If you died today, what are the five ways of being that you want people to describe you? Now throw away two. What is left?
  • How do you want your children to describe you?
  • What do you want to be most proud of at the end of your days?
  • How do you never want to be described?
  • Who are you at your best?

When I walk through these questions, year after year and through every evolution of my life, a few things continue to come to the top.

I would be most proud if people were to say I was caring to them, to others, to anyone. I read this quote early in my journey and it has been a guide since.

I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. Etienne de Grellet

I desire to live like that. In all the times both good and bad — when strong and weak.

I would like people to say I was knowledgeable, kind, and a smart ass!

I want my children to say I did my best, at all times, and always remembered them at their best.

I never want anyone to remember me as angry and pitifully.

At my best I care deeply, I joke and laugh, and yet am serious and knowledgeable. I tell stories about it all.

Living your Core Desired Feelings

I have my good days and bad days. Days when I am on point with how I feel and act. Days I am less proud of. Regardless of this, I am always growing and feeding my core, something goals, whether achieved or given up on, never do.

I desire to care so I care.

I want to be knowledgeable so I learn.

I want to be light so I laugh!

Core Desired Feelings feed a deeper soul and spirit that moves me forward into the essence of who I am.

A Final Thought

Beyond just reading this idea. I challenge you to try it. Feed your soul. Let your spirit free!

Pick one CDF. Write it on paper and post it on your wall. Post your CDF here, share it with the world.

Then live it. Ask yourself every morning how you will live this in your core! Prove to yourself each night you lived that Feeling.

I would love to hear your stories.
