I Believe Empowering Women is the Real Theme of the Black Widow Movie.
Helping girls and women regain their power is what stuck out in my mind.

For those who don’t know it, I’m a big Marvel fan. Before COVID, I would typically go to the theater dressed in some type of Marvel gear when my adult son and I went to see the new releases.
I’m so into Marvel, I bought a couple of shares of AMC theater stock, just because of all the Marvel releases coming out. Many fans have been cooped up all this time, and are dying to get out there to the theater.
Black Widow Release
Like most Marvel fans, I was anxiously awaiting the release of the Black Widow movie, and now that I’ve seen it, I’m happy to report, it didn’t disappoint.
I have to admit, I didn’t go to the theater to see the movie. Unlike my grown son, who feels quite comfortable visiting the theater in his 38 year-old body, I wasn’t all that comfortable at age 63. I’m afraid I’m still too COVID conscious.
So I watched at home, but I enjoyed it all the same. I thought it was great. If you’re a Marvel fan, you don’t have to worry about me giving any spoilers. Where I’m from, that’s an absolute violation, and a crime punishable by a good cussing out.
So I’ll just touch briefly on the underlying theme of the movie, which is evident in the opening credits, so I’m not giving any spoilers.
Afterwards, I mainly wanted to mention my feelings about watching the film at home, instead of at the theater, on the big screen, like I normally view Marvel movies.
So without any further hesitation, let me get to it.
Marvel and Black Widow Fans
Whether you’re a Marvel fan in general, or you’re specifically a Black Widow fan, either way, I think you’ll be pleased with Marvel’s latest release (that’s if you haven’t already seen it).
The only thing I’ll say in the way of a review is that I enjoyed getting a better understanding about Black Widow’s “Natasha” Romanova persona. As far as her family is concerned, can you say dysfunctional? But they were great, in a bizarre way. And by the way, little sister Yelena Belova is no joke.
Issue of Women Empowerment
This film has a lot of action, and some humorous moments, just like you would expect from a Marvel movie. But the darker theme of human trafficking is woven like a thread throughout the entire film.
There are several instances where it is very prevalent, and eventually addressed with words, to some degree.
But whether the enslavement and trafficking of young girls is done for a reason rooted in science fiction, or whether the issue is being addressed on a documentary basis; the horror of the situation is still very real.
I think the way the Black Widow film features so many dark, yet powerful women, is still a way of helping the cause for true empowerment for women. Not just because the women in the film show physical strength, but they demonstrate cohesion and a kind of connectivity that exists between the sisterhood.
And as for the human trafficking element, it manages to bring attention to the issue in a way that penetrates your subconscious. I really enjoyed the movie, and will probably end up seeing it again.
Theater Viewing — Pros
I have to admit, there were some very specific parts where I would have loved to be at the theater watching and listening. Those huge dolby speakers have a way of making the scenes feel more intense.
There’s nothing like feeling the excitement of the crowd during the action and suspense scenes. I guess that’s what the expression the whole movie going experience means
Theater Viewing — Cons
Even though watching at the theater is great for all those huge action scenes; good entertainment is more than just action, and thankfully Marvel realizes that.
As I mentioned earlier, when I spoke about women empowerment, this movies deals with some deep subtext, surrounding the Black Widow’s background in Russia and being indoctrinated as a child.
While some of the other scenes I would have liked to view in a theater, for the most part, I’m glad I watched the movie at home. This allowed me to really pay attention and concentrate on what was happening, regarding the family dynamics, and the overall plot of the film.
And of course, I could rewind anything back and play it again if I needed to.
Final Thoughts
Well that’s my take on watching the Black Widow movie, what I thought about the women empowerment element, and how I felt viewing the movie at home.
I had planned to publish this story sooner, but — as of this writing — the movie has been out for a little more than a week, so I imagine a lot of people have already seen it.
If you haven’t already watched the movie, feel free to leave a response and share with us where you plan to view the movie and why.
