How I’d Describe Myself to a Stranger: A Casual Introduction

If you know me, you know!

Lynn L. Alexander asked, How would you describe yourself to a stranger?

This was a writing prompt that I was excited to work on because who doesn’t like talking about themselves?!

William Butler Yeats famously said:

“There are no strangers here: Only friends you haven’t met yet.”

This quote is how I would start by describing myself to someone who didn’t know me.

I love meeting new people. I love human connection. I deplore small talk. I love when I meet a new person and get to learn who they really are.

My friends have described me as a “shit magnet.”

I will befriend anyone and everyone and invite them into my inner circle, without knowing much about them.

That hasn’t always been so successful.

I am a giver by nature. I love to give gifts, and I often give up my time to people I later discover can’t do so in return.

It’s not that I need them to do as much or as little as I do, but the friends I make who are willing to go the extra mile when needed are those I keep as close as can be.

As a result, I am becoming more wary of jumping into deep friendships too quickly!

I talk a lot! I have a huge personality.

I’ve often joked that I should have been a talk show host, but I know I’d fail miserably because I laugh way too often at my jokes!

I’m a walking, talking encyclopaedia of what most would call useless information.

I excel at trivia nights. I never seem to run out of ideas for blog posts, and I thoroughly enjoy my own company!

On the home front, I’m married to the best husband on earth. He is a massive grumpy ass, but I get him chuckling. We have three kids, aged fourteen, thirteen, and nine.

If you have read any of my articles, you will know I will do anything I can to protect my kids.

I love them fiercely, although I make no secret of the fact that being a mother is both frustrating and pain-inducing at times.

I try to make the world a better place for them.

If that means I have to show up and crack some skulls, then so be it!

I loathe responsibility, yet I am a responsible adult.

I just love the idea of freedom and being able to dance when the mood calls for it.

I’m the person who’ll point out the elephant in the room, not just because it’s there, but because talking about it, writing about it, makes us all a little more human, a little more connected.

I enjoy living my life with no filters.

My other greatest love is my golden retriever, who, between you and me, sometimes gets more affection than anyone else in the family. Other than stealing my socks when I’m about to put them on, he can do no wrong.

So, who am I, really?

I’m a reality storyteller who lives life out loud, with high self-esteem and a knack for not taking myself too seriously. I’ve got no formal degree, just a PhD in experiences and embracing life’s quirks.

I consider myself authentic and vulnerable. These qualities are the threads that weave through my writing. I’m all about the struggle-juggle, keeping it real, and showing up as my true self, even when messy.

My approach to life and storytelling is unique because it’s grounded in real, lived experiences and a relentless pursuit of joy, even in the mundane.

So, tell me about you. Let’s share stories, embrace our quirks, and celebrate this wild ride called life!
